Yes Whitaker got robbed,he totaly made Chavez look ordinary, its hard watching that fight if your a Whitaker fan,he should of been given a clear decision,if i remember,he was crying after the bell because he knew he did it,and it was his time to shine, then they declare it a draw

I never saw this fight but the media usually makes it sound like Whitaker was robbed by getting a draw. I bet that wasn't the case, for some reason certain fighters like Whitaker Mayweather have their own set of judging criteria and a different one for everybody else. They get points just through defense not by actually landing punches. Your really only supposed to score a round to a fighter on the basis of defense if both fighters have about an equal activity level and are landing a similar amount of punches of about equal effectiveness. In that scenario you might give the round to the fighter with the better defense because through that he's achieving the 3 more critical criteria, he's the more accurate and hence more effective agressor through being more accurate and missing less, landing slightly the cleaner effective punches by making his opponent miss some...et

Whitaker was far from a runner. I consider Sugar Ray Leonard to be more of the running type of fighter. Whitaker was the type of fighter that would stand right in front of you and make you miss. He was a master of using angles and had great defensive skills like no other boxer.

I've not seen the fight for ages but at the time i think i only gave Chavez a draw in one of the rounds,Whitaker took everything else.

Its too bad really, it was actually an outstanding fight. Whitaker looked amazing in that fight, just unbelievable. It was actually a very rough fight too.

I remember Whitaker really pissed off the ref, Cortez, in that fight, hahaha. That might have turned the judges against him.

People somtimes take the robbery idea a bit too far though, Chavez DID win some rounds. by no means at all did he deserve any draw...Whitaker clearly took at least 8 rounds, and I mean clearly, there is no way in hell you could score them for Chavez...but Chavez did take some of them

I'm a proud Chicano and I love Chavez to death but he lost. I felt he lost at least 8 rounds in that fight but I will also say he was never hurt or stunned. He just couldn't find Whitaker all night long. I love a good boxing match but it's ok to like a guy who ****s. chavez was a surgeon but could also **** with the best of them.

Pernell style was just something that didn't fit Chavez's style and it made for a very difficult fight for him. Sweet Pea is one of the greatest of all time, no shame in being out pointed by him.

Now correct me if I'm mistaken, but this makes no sense.

If both fighters throw roughly the same number of punches, and landed roughly the same number of equally effective punches. Then how the hell do you score the round based on defense?

If that was the scenario, then wouldn't there defense also be equal? Since both fighters threw the same number of punches, and both fighters landed the same number of effective punches.

If that was the case, I would score that round based on Ring Generalmanship, rather than defense.
