I was reading "Boxing's Greatest Fighters" by Bert Sugar and I got to Pernell Whitaker at #48, and Bert discussed Whitaker vs. Chavez. Bert made it sound like Whitaker won the fight pretty clearly and it was declared a draw wrongfulley. I never saw the fight but was curious on what happened that night, did Whitaker get robbed out of his best performance? Or did Chavez earn a draw?
Julio Cesar Chavez vs. Pernell Whitaker?

Whitakr outclassed and beat JCC but they declared it a draw, pretty straight forward if you ask me... -

I thought maybe there were different opinions? So the general consensus among boxing fans is that Whitaker should have won? Or did Chavez earn a draw in some people's eyes?Comment

Chaves hung tough early but from like the 5th round on it was all Sweet Pea.
Dont forget that the fight was in SA where it was 95% Chaves fans. Even the commentators were biased. It made me sick. They were acting like Chaves was the best ever and Sweet Pea was a nobody. They were so favoring Chaves and every little thing he would do. They would always talk about how Chaves is about to get him now.
It was great though because when around the 7th round hit, they knew that they couldnt overlook Sweet Pea anymore and they had to start giving him props. Sweet Pea was so awesome to look at. I dont know why people on here talk so positive about him when if he was fighting now then so many people on here would be ripping him along with Merchant. They would say he only wins because he runs and its not real boxing and blah blah blahComment

Whitaker clearly won that fight...
It's sad because he would have been the first to beat JCC ...
I also think that he De la Hoya - Whitaker should have been a draw or a win for Whitaker. De la Hoya won by throwing some big flurries that were doing nothing. He did that to impress the judge ( the crowd was mad with every shot he threw ). He tried to do the same thing with Pbf and that almost work, there's still ignorant who think Dlh won...Comment

If Sweet Pea was fighting today, he would be seen as a runner and nobody would give him credit. Sweet Pea is one of the greatest. End of threadComment
