This was a dumb thread on my part.lol. I thought maybe it was kind of close in some peoples eyes. But it sounds like it theres no doubt that Whitaker should have won.

It's not a dumb thread, last time i saw a thread talking about this fight there were a lot of people arguing that Jcc won. I don't know where they are now.

Cool. Thanks. Yeah I was just curious about what the fight was like after I read about it. I knew that Bert Sugar was making it sound like Whitaker got robbed but then I was thinking well Chavez must have done somthing to get a draw. So I figured if I asked about it one here I would get some answers and I did which is good.

One of the biggest robberies in the history of boxing. It's as bad as Lewis vs Holyfield I.

I watched it again a couple months back and only scored 1 round for Chavez, terrible.

Dont forget that the fight was in SA where it was 95% Chaves fans. Even the commentators were biased. It made me sick. They were acting like Chaves was the best ever and Sweet Pea was a nobody. They were so favoring Chaves and every little thing he would do. They would always talk about how Chaves is about to get him now.

It was great though because when around the 7th round hit, they knew that they couldnt overlook Sweet Pea anymore and they had to start giving him props. Sweet Pea was so awesome to look at. I dont know why people on here talk so positive about him when if he was fighting now then so many people on here would be ripping him along with Merchant. They would say he only wins because he runs and its not real boxing and blah blah blah
              Great point! I hate hypocrites.

If you were really pushing a chavez agenda. I could see you having the fight even halfway through. But there is just no way I could possibly see him winning around after that.

There was some showboating by Pernell that could have turned off the judges. But for me, it was so long ago....all I remember was feeling sick to the stomach when it was declared a draw. Pernell won the fight, wasn't even close.

Only thing worse was Robin Reid vs Sven Ottke, when Robin tagged Sven, he got a warning from the ref. Reid lost but to the world, he won that fight. At least Pernell got a draw.

Yes Sweet Pea was robbed. And when I was in Vegas for the De la Hoya PBF fight when they announced the first card in favor of De la Hoya all thought about was this is going to be another Sweet Pea Chavez type of deal. But glad it didn't turn out that way the right man was declared the winner even though it should have been unanimous.

Judges werent impressed by Whitaker he kept running and threw1-2 punch all night. Also the showboarding didnt help. For some reason the boxing world didnt like Whitaker at the time. Now people regards him as a ALL TIME GREAT!!! I think about this time Chavez was going down hill after this fight he fought Randall which led him to his first lost
