Do We Underestimate Boxers Against The UFC?

There has been alot of boxing vs UFC threads and the thing you hear the most is that a boxer would get killed in UFC and a UFC guy would get killed in boxing. Unlike most people on here, I kind of like UFC. I dont think I watch it enough to be called a big fan but I like it.

However, one thing I do notice is that the UFC has alot of guys who basically just box. I watch Liddell and alot of other guys and all they do is box and slam guys. They dont have any other real moves and alot of those guys are the best fighters in the UFC. Thats why I dont understand why so many people except the fact that a boxer would get killed over there. Then you watch the Liddell-Rampage fight and you see him get KO within a minute. Dont tell me a boxer couldnt have done that. Rampage didnt hit nearly as hard as a boxing HW wouldve and it also shows you how weak alot of these guys chins are. Most boxers dont know how to do anything else but alot of them are definatly strong enough to slam guys.

I remember Tito Ortiz talking **** about Tyson and saying how he would kill him. Then I watch Liddell go in and Knock Him The **** Out by just boxing. Imagine if Tyson wouldve hit him with those little gloves on? I think we also underestimate how boxers would look in the ring. If a boxer got on TV in a UFC ring then he would look totally different as he did in a boxing ring. Thats why I think people underestimate how a guy even like Mayweather would do. Put Floyd in some little tight shorts and give him those small gloves. His body would look so lean and if you thought he looked fast in a boxing ring then he would look triple that speed in a UFC fight.

There is no way that even a grappler could get to him without him landing about 4 or 5 clean shots. His speed would be a shock to there system and his power that is called weak in boxing would be crazy in the UFC. Then think about how fast he is. It would be hard for any guy to just try to rush him and put him on the ground. He's definatly quick enough to step back or run back everytime you rush in and while he's doing that he's going to be countering. Those guys would get hit with like 5 blazing quick punches and probally wouldnt even be able to grab him after taking those hits and him moving. Imagine a left handed Zab in there with his combination of speed, power, and his southpaw stance that would throw guys off. He would knock a ton of guys out. The bottom line is that if your a boxer then theres a 99% chance that you will atleast get some punches off before those guys get to grab you and these boxers would knock them straight out. Imagine if that was James Toney hitting Liddell the other night. He wouldve decapitated him.

Thats why it kind of makes sense when guys like Floyd say that there not good enough to make it in boxing so there in the UFC. Ofcourse thats not the case for everyone because some arent boxers but again, guys like Liddell basically do nothing else and they never lose. How come he could win but the boxers couldnt? Guys go in against him with a game plan of not letting him hit them but they still get hit and its hard for them to get to him to get him down. Boxers could do the same thing and with those little gloves it would be murder. We also dont even need to talk about UFC guys boxing because that wouldnt even be close. Liddell is a beast but put him in a boxing ring and average guys would KO him within the first 3 rounds

No UFC fighter has ever fought in a boxing match coz they know they will get licked. On the other hand...mediocre/retired boxers have fought in the UFC and has been successful most of the time.

I totally agree i'd give a boxer a great chance to beat an mma guy in mma. Also about chuck liddel he was touted the best ever ufc fighter lol, imagine what any top ten contender boxer at 200 pounds would do to him let alone legends like tyson i'd be scared for chuck as he'd proberly die

People always say that a UFC fighter would wrestle a boxer down to the ground but they forget just how strong boxers are. Hasim Rahman can bench press over 500 pounds, Sugar Shane Mosley can bench 350 lbs and he's only 147 lbs. And you know if a boxer would go into an MMA match that they'd at least train in wrestling. They may not be that good at wrestling, but still minimal training could keep the UFC guy from taking them down to the ground.

Chuck touched on the subject of fighting a wrestler and he said that if a wrestler came in he would have to be willing to take a good shot because that is what happens. Now, if the wrestler can take that shot and is still coming towards you, this is when hopefully you can land another one (in combinations), or have the ability to use a knee, or wrestle/grapple yourself.
Chuck's trainer also noted that Tyson could of done well.

I think what people do not take into account to often is the freakish people like Tyson who are wirey guys. It is much harder to get these guys down than the normal person.

How many in the UFC/MMA have Tyson's hand speed?

Now, if you take a 20 year old Tyson, teach him different forms in Martial Arts, like Kickboxing, judo, etc., how do you think he will do?

Just remember all the stories of how you heard how hard Tyson trained to learn his "craft", anybody doubt he could not learn different forms of fighting given if he was 13 and started, or even 20 and took 3 years to learn...

I would be scared of a 20 year old, let alone a 13 year old Tyson who has time to train in MMA/Martial Arts forms because by his own admission he wanted to kill his opponent.

Even great fighters like Fedor have the attitude that it is just his job, but Tyson, that boy has some problems. He might even think if he killed somebody that it would add to his legacy/reputation.

Tyson already knew how to elbow, later he proved how to bite, teach him other forms in Martial Arts, that is a deadly weapon.

Tyson was also quick on his feet, lets not forget that.

For Boxers in MMA: it really depends on what else they learn and how much time they are willing to give the sport. Also, I would favor fighters like Tyson and even a young Foreman over a lot of other fighters.

1.Just because they can bench 500 doesnt mean ****. I WW Matt Hughes would take him down easier than a hot knife going in butter. Even with training in wreslting just like boxing it takes a lifetime to master. Just like any form of fighting.
                    2. Just wont happen. Liddell is 37 and has the best taketown defence in the game. It just doesnt happen over night
