He's calling out Taylor because it's an easier fight, for potentially better $, than Kess.

The only people who claimed Lacy to be a top American were Brits and very delusional people. Most American boxing fans knew exactly what Lacy was: a cheap, mini Tyson-like fighter who would be exposed when he fought a talented boxer. Calzaghe is a good boxer, but an idiot if he thinks he's ever beaten a top American or top fighter from anywhere for that matter.
