that has to be the worst excuse flying around at the minute. Plenty of 6 ft plus russians and other europeans are heading into football (soccer) as opposed to boxing. There may be a load of huge guys in the nfl but who knows whether or not they have the mentality of a fighter.

Chambers looks very promising but in more of a Chris Byrd type manner.....will win alot great boxer but no power and KOs,thus he will never be great.Chazz Witherspoon looks pretty decnt but still have alot of work to do.....I doubt he will ever be great but could be very good in years to come.I can't see many guys in the near future assuming that role.

To be honest, it doesn't matter where the hell the boxer is born! We just need the heavyweight scene to be revived full stop regardless! It does seem like big strong natural athletes are choosing to take up other sports rather than boxing.

              Eddie Chambers.

I've been watching him for years now being that I live in the Philadelphia area and he has continued to improve after every fight. He still has some work to do though, and I don't see him competing well against the likes of Wladimir Klitschko for another 2 years or so, maybe more. There is also Chris Arreola who unlike Chambers is a very heavy puncher who is exciting to watch, but I don't see all to much upside out of Arreola. I think he's at his best right now with little room for improvement as far as his potential goes.

I see Eddie Chambers as more of a tactical fighter similar to Muhammad Ali in terms of his hand speed, but lacks the power to match. Hopefully he can improve upon that, as he has proven in the past to have deceptive power, he just needs to learn how to better utilize his power punches. He consistently dominates the scorecards, but if he can't finish people off it's gonna be a problem, if not for his future potential at least for his fan base.

I agree with this statement but let me take it a bit further....We need a unified hw champion who's willing to fight the best and fight somewhat frequently and I think that Wlad Klitschko may be that guy..Anyway, if you're looking for a good American hw, try checking out Joe Mesi. Mesi's undefeated at 36-0 and is determined to get back into the top ten.

Mesi is one of my favorite current heavyweights, however, his time is extremely limited. His age is catching up to him, so if he wants to unify the belts (extremely unlikely at this point) he's gotta act quickly and fight often.

Do you guys think it could be a lack of financial incentive for youngsters?

For example, I'm from the UK and some of these 16,17 and 18 year old football players are already getting paid high amounts of money. Now obviously they train hard, but imagine being of that age and training just as hard, as well as getting repeated blows to the head and gruelling punches to the liver, waking up at 5 a.m to do jogging and sprints and thats long before your professional career takes off!!! Of course its not all about the money, but at 16,17 and 18 you can understand a kid not undertaking boxing and going with another sport where the financial rewards come a hell of a lot earlier.

Just a thought not gospel, but do you guys think a similar thing could be happening in the US?

I don't necessarily agree on the 'age' factor; I think Mesi's a young 32 and has not taken alot of punishment in his career, save the Jirov fight. As for unifying the titles, I don't think that this will happen but I do think that he could possibly win one of the titles that are floating around. What Joe has to do is start fighting some decent competition so that the boxing world can see how deserving he is of a top ten ranking and eventual title shot. I like that he's been so busy but his level of competition isn't helping to make the case...
