Winky Wright is fighting for the #1 p4p spot

Whether Floyd mayweather retires or not, if Winky defeats Bernard Hopkins he will (should and would) become the #1 p4p fighter in the world knocking floyd off the top spot. Usually (or most of the times) in order for the #1 p4p spot to change hands the top guy has to lose to somebody in order for somebody else to move up and become the new p4p king. Examples are roy jones jr who lost to tarver and Hopkins who was considered #2 moved up and took his spot by technicality. Same thing with Hopkins after he lost to jermain taylor and Floyd mayweather took his spot and became the top dog. To make a long story short, usually once somebody becomes (or is considered by the majority of normal unbiased fans or experts) #1 p4p its hard to take his spot until he losses to somebody. If the p4p best stays active and keeps racking up victories even against B-level fighters on a consistent basis he will stay on top, until now.

Once again, if Winky Wright defeates Bernard Hopkins he will become the legitimate p4p best. If Bernard Hopkins defeats winky he will take Winky’s current p4p spot which according to me is #2 (according to other # 3 behind Paquao) . As much as he has accomplished he has lost to jermain taylor twice and that makes it impossible for him to go any further then #2 until the fighter ahead of him losses. But with Winky you have a guy who hasn’t been beaten in a decade. If he beats Hopkins he doesn’t just have that one big victory NO it will be his fourth big victory added to his long win streak which consists with wins over Shane mosley 2x and Trinidad. Not only that but he will be the first former jr.middleweight champ in boxing history ( as far as I know) to jump up and become the linear light-heavyweight champion skipping out on supper-middle. That’s major and again you add to it that he hasn’t been beaten in a decade you got a guy who has done enough to dethrone the current p4p best Floyd Mayweather jr who by the way is still undefeated and a 5-division (legitimate 3-division champ 130, 135 and 147) champion.

Now I know in any mathematical ranking systems the #2 ranked (winky) can’t move up to #1 by beating the #5 (Hopkins on my list) ranked guy but the p4p ranks are mythical anyway. A lot of fans disagree and have different lists although the majority has the same fighters in the top 3 (floyd, winky and pacman not necessary in the same order) and everything below that can be debated for eternity.

Now I am a big floyd mayweather fan but I’m being unbiased on this. I thought Winky was going to get dominated by Taylor before they fought a la Wlad Klitschko/Chris Byrd, where the good big man beats the good little man but that didn’t happen. I even criticized him for the way he acted after the draw was announced running off to his locker room refusing a rematch with Jermain Taylor at that time. I’m not a big fan of Wright and I will be rooting for Hopkins come fight night BUT if he manages to beat Hopkins close or not close he will in my eyes (and I hope in the majority of others) not only become the new Light-heavyweight champion of the world ( ignore the sanctioning bodies) but also the New P4P best in boxing.

On a side note im thinking: "So floyd, whether you're retiring or not (and I'm a big fan) you're not going out as the p4p best. Winky takes it from you either way unless you go back down and clean out the welterweight division Hatton (if he beats castillo), Cotto (if he beats Judah) and Mosley in no particular order. Although it would be smart to take on mosley first if you plan on fighting him and fight him soon became he is the oldest of the three and if you want credit for that fight it would have to be soon because every day he is getting older and older. After all would if you had 3 cases of milk, 2 of them which you just bought today and the third who's date is about to expire which case would you drink first? And lets face it cotto and hatton are still young and can wait while mosley is still that good case of milk but you have to drink it soon before it expires and gets sour.

FLOYD WELTERWEIGHT IS WHERE THE LEGACY IS AT!!

floyd is better than Winky imo. They both have great D, but Winky TRIES to go on the offensive but cant do damage. Floyd is just afraid to.

Floyd honestly couldn't do damage against top fighters in the Welterweight division.

I agree. If Winky comes up to 170 and beats Hopkins he's p4p without a doubt. That's a tough feat to take especially coming from middleweight. Bernard is no push over either at light heavy.

I am not talking about whether Floyd mayweather can or cannot beat Winky wright. That is a whole other issue. I am talking about accomplishments and rankings in the mythical p4p and imo Winky has done enough to have him moved up to #1 ahead of floyd. Usually the #1 guys (roy jones and Hopkins for example) have to lose or retire in order for somebody to take their spot because nobody accomplishes enough to take the King of his throne so to speak. Mayweather if he doesn't retire and if winky beats hopkins will move down to #2 while winky becomes #1 p4p.

no doubt, winky is still a 154 pound fighter.. if he beats hopkins he is definatley #1... but i think whoever wins this fight should be #1 ... hopkins is underrated he just beat tarver who beat roy and glenn johnson and beat taylor in that first fight, if you know boxing..

Im not talking about them fighting, Im just rating their skills, which you add to record to discern p4p rankings.

I dont think victories over tarver and winky wright are enough when you look his two losses to jermain taylor whether you think he lost or won those two fights or went 1-1. Facts- he is 1-2 in his last 3 fights against top competition. Granted he jumped up all the way from middleweight to win a light-heavyweight title skippin supper-middle which is old school and I like that but the fact of the matter is that he still has lost 2 in a row and I can't ignore that. Now winky jumping all the way from middleweight to light-heavy and winning against hopkins along with his long unbeaten streak that conisists of beating shane twice and trinidad should and would be good enough to have him surpass floyd mayweather who hasn't lost yet.
The best hopkins can do is go is to winky's current p4p spot which is # 2 or 3 according to some if they have paquao at #2 (I dont).
