Floyd is not better than Sugar ray leonard.

The difference between Leonard and Mayweather is when Ray saw openings he let his hands go and busted out 8 straight punches trying to put a hurt on you. When Floyd sees a opening it's 1 counterpunch at a time and that's it. Then he is back to being defensive. He is afraid to get hit so that makes him not let his hands go like Ray did from 1978 thru 1982.Comment

At this point in time Ray ranks higher but Floyd is not done mark my words he will have some more big fight. And when its all said and done he will be among the greatest of all time.Comment

Not really.
DLH came up through the weights, same as Floyd, plus he was semi-retired. Lalonde was what, SRL's 2nd fight in 4 1/2 years after coming out of retirement?
Hagler retired, did he not?
Hearns he'd already knocked out and where's the advantage if they were both past their primes and out of their best weight class? If anything it was advantage Hearns at the higher weight.
Duran? No real clamour for an immediate rematch when the guy quit last time out.
When you compare SRL and PBF remember the size difference:
Pbf fought Oscar...SRL's equivalent was the "great" Donnie Lalonde completely dehydrated by the ridiculous catch weight, which Leonard imposed.
Also, remeber that when pbf had a close fight (castillo) we immediately saw the rematch.
Hagler 2? nobody, uh?
Hearns 2? many years later, both past their primes
Duran 3? 10 years later...Comment

how could any1 compare the great srl to pbf. this guy is pure talent, he makes non-boxing fan turn to boxing. he's fights with boxing greats(duran, hearns, hugler etc.)were legends and priceless. hes fights were worth every penny you paid for :>Comment

Mayweather hands down is one of the most talented mutha ****ers prolly in the history of the sport. Not to be confused with legendary because he has to do more than just beat an older DLH. He aint never going to be remembered in the same light as Sugar Ray unless he gives us something to remember him by. Sugar was not a pot shot runner like Floyd. He fought bigger stronger men as well and so did Duran and all started out at the same weight as Mayweather. Floyd woulda never been able to back up a fighter like Hearns like Leonard did to win the second half of their first fight. Different fighters both with great skill, but Leonard was more memorable. You can't be great if their aint nothing worth remembering. Floyd gotta just go for broke. I wanna see him againts Mosely. I think he easily beats everyone else that wants to fight him but he should at least give em a shot to secure his legacy.Last edited by Alibata; 05-11-2007, 12:52 AM.Comment

same as floyd my ass, DLH is a welter and not a small one. Floyd is a lightweight, if you dont agree I will start telling you who fought at what weight and when. (and throw in that Oscar NEVER made at 130 24 hours before a fight...)
Lalonde was a no name lightheavy who had to weigh in at 167 under the smw limit.
lol
not quite, you are mistaking cause and effect
Hagler asks for rematch
Leonard says "no no I am retired"
Hagler retires
Leonard comes back...
are you kidding me?
SRL knocked out Hearns behind on points, when Hearns ran out of gas. SRL was getting outboxed. A rematch would have beeen big. As it is often the case with Leonard... mad respect for what he did in the ring, but one ***** move after the other outside.
in 1989 there were better foes than Hearns, but Leonard chose Hearns nonetheless.
Usual Leonard, the McCallum and Nunn of this world are at 154-160, lets fight an old former welter at 168...
Ask Duran if he wanted a rematch you might even find an interview on youtube.Comment

and he imposed ridiculous conditions.
and he did not give rematches after close/controversial fights.
remember everything, not selected warm fuzzy feelingsComment
