You have to wonder if De La Hoya would have wanted a close descision to swing in his favor considering the criticism it would undoubtably bring onto his promotional company.

Especially when they are always saying how they are so much less corrupt than everybody else, they can't have that kind of detractions.

this may be offtopic but imagine if they had open scoring, knowing the fight was very close they may have fought a lot harder in the last few rounds. and maybe floyd would have got cought like he did in the last few seconds.
i think it would have made it a lot more exciting

My only problem with the Mayweather fans taking a victory-lap right now is the lack of truth about Floyd's performance. I saw Floyd throw many of his punches right into oscar's gloves throughout the fight. Floyd landed some good punches to be sure, but not what anyone would expect given his "prime skills" against a 34 year old, less-active, robot with a one-arm strategy.
his prime skills at a weight higher than he's been at ever. floyd doesn't have the same speed he once had at the smaller weights even though he was still faster than oscar. floyd, had this been at 140, would have bee much faster and oscar would have too imo. i do believe floyd is in his prime as far as ring generalship goes, and skills also, but not speed, and powerwise even though he showed good power on oscar in this fight. i have floyd's whole professional career and some amature fights, and i know his speed is past it's prime. also, floyd rarely went to the body consistently like he knows how to do tremendously, and has this been his prime, he would more, i'm sure.

It's funny because fighters who feel strongly that they won call for an immediate rematch, whereas Oscar seemed like he had enough.

Also prior to the fight all the Oscar fans and PBF haters were saying "mark my words Oscar will knock him out", "there are going to be a lot of sad PBF nut huggers come the night of May 5th", yadda, yadda, yadda. Now all you hear them saying is Floyd ran and Oscar pressed the fight, among other excuses. I'm not a huge fan of either fighter but can't we all just acknowledge, close decision or not, that Floyd won.

As far as a rematch Floyd wins again this time by UD.

To my eyes, Oscar looked very nervous early in the fight and probally burned up alot of energy that he could have used later in the fight. The later rounds were the deciding factor in a closer than expected fight.

It also seems that Oscar might have bought too much into all the hype about needing a knockout to win against Floyd. Why in the world did he stop jabbing when it is one of his signature weapons and Floyd seemed to have no real answer for it?

Sadly, I saw oscar even attempt a few Rocky Balboa-style-desperation hooks at Floyd's head. How can such a good fighter with so much big fight experience make such mistakes? I will give Mayweather some of the credit based on his talent, but I think most of the problem was in Oscar's head.

Oscar looked like a typical older fighter with reduced speed, poor reflex-time, and just waiting too long to do something to sustain or create momentum. Mayweather did not look like the fighter that promised to "ice that mother****er," and the guy that thinks he is better than Leonard, Robinson, and Ali.

The blueprint to beat Floyd has been drawn by Castillo and De la hoya. A fighter with a good, fast jab that is willing to press the action both mentally and physically for 12 rounds, without giving in to Floyd's trashtalk, will win against Mayweather. It will take more than just an average fighter willing to try, but an A-level boxer will do it.

            Excellent post

lol Wipeout, what wiping did mayweather do...um nothing.
Mayweather didnt put on a all high impressive show.
FYI I never said de la hoya would rock and roll over mayweather. This fights pisses me off because it was so close, then some mayweathers fan exclaiming oscar got trashed....wtf. A man with slower reflexes, waiting to do something. etc whatever the excuse, mayweather didnt knock oscar out, he never came even close. What mayweather did do very good was avoid being hit. Thats how he won.
