A rematch would bring about the same results. I'd rather see Floyd against someone else.
De La Hoya VS Mayweathers Rematch! It Was all a Mistake By Judges

Yeah right, a rematch would prove the true winner of the fight...not mayweather. He did nothing impressive but fight smart and avoid being hit. He didnt beat oscar.Comment

There is no need for a rematch. I believe Oscar went all out and did what he could. You can't hurt what you can't hit.
Ok, I've watched the fight twice - I scored the 2,6, and 7th round for DLH. All this talk about Oscar "pressing the action" and so forth is moot. Floyd is a defensive fighter. We all knew this going in. Because Floyd made DLH stalk him and press we are supposed to score for Oscar?? That is crazy talk.
Plain and simple - Oscar stalked, Floyd made him miss and scored moving away almost every round. And please, let's stop this talk about Oscar throwing more punches as a reason he should have won - now people are changing the way fights have been scored for years to save the beloved DLH.Last edited by flexnbig; 05-08-2007, 09:29 PM.Comment

i disagree. floyd stunned oscar a couple of times in this fight. floyd could have knocked oscar down or out in the 11th round, and in the 5th round imo. floyd threw fast punches at oscar's head in the 5th, and oscar was stunned, and floyd could have knocked him out imo had he kept at it. in the 11th, floyd hit oscar with a jab to the body, and oscar made a face and a noise as if he was hurt, and then right after that floyd threw 2 left hooks to oscar's body and oscar looked hurt by those punches, he pasued for a second. if floyd went to oscar's body more, i feel he would have knocked oscar out or at least down multiple times.First off, Freddie Roach is the man, although some argue that the fighters he trains were nice before he got there (Pacquiao, Toney, and in this case, definitely Oscar).
But yeah, there's no way Floyd could knock out De La Hoya, or even stop him. This was something that Floyd and his corner were more than aware of during the fight. That's why Floyd never stood toe-to-toe with Oscar and even attempted to throw a flurry (other than the last 10 seconds of the fight).
You got to consider that although both fighters came in at the super welterweight limit (PBF at 150, DLH at 154), Oscar was probably 165-170 on fight night, while Floyd dropped down to 148. That's a pretty considerable weight difference, and given Oscar's iron chin, if those kind of numbers were to remain in the rematch, (which they probably would), I don't see Floyd doing any damage to Oscar.
the reason floyd never stood toe to toe with oscar is because he's a defensive fighter, and he waits until you're winded to tag you up unless you're slow enough for him to it early. floyd's rarely went toe to toe with any of his opponents when he kncoked them out. with corley he went toe to toe some, but other than that, floyd has boxed his way to kos. he has picked his shots wisely and since he's so fast, he knows when to hit to stagger his opponent, and many times it's wheh they don't expect or see it. floyd likes to tire you out before his onslaught, it's no secret. that's why a lot of times, that's his strategy, he waits to the later rounds to punish his opponents to a knock out, and this is also why he trains the way he does, he conditions himself to go 12 rounds at full pace and if you tire out, you're in danger of beind hit a lot by floyd unless your defense is superb or have a chin of metal. floyd is smart, he knows how to win.Comment

Sure, no need for a rematch when you know who the winner will be.
This fight was a draw, nothing too big from either side both had even offence. Mayweather fans are clearly biased.Comment

While I think Oscar won the fight, Floyd would win the next one IMO. Or SHOULD win, unless he's to fearful to take a risk and throw more one than 2 punches in a row.Comment

No disrespect, but your avatar is all we need to see to not take this quote seriously. You are obviously an Oscar fan, which is fine, he is a great fighter.
How can you say both had even offense when Floyd landed a higher percentage of punches?? Do you really score for punches thrown to the wind? Again, no disrespect I'm just trying to understand the logic of anyone thinking this was anything but a Floyd Mayweather win.Comment
