Its mainly because of his boxing skills, record, and has won belts in multiple divisions.

now i understand Gatti is garbage
      but think what he was
and Juddah c'mon now juddah could be the champ again is floyd wasn't around
I think when people say that they mean he hasn't fought everybody. Regardless if the guys were great or not they still were champions at the time and he took that from them. I think Floyd is a good fighter and all but for him to be considered the greatest of all time he needs to fight more big name fights and win.

I would say he ain't the best pound for pound for the simple fact that he fights boxers when they aren't in their prime or after they've been exposed in the ring by another fighter. Would Flyod ever dare step foot in the ring with a Margarito or Williams or Cotto while there young and not so well known, the answer is no he ain't taking a fight he feels he could lose and thats why he's waiting for one of these guys to be exposed and then beat them and add a name not a talent to his resume!!!! Flyod Mayweather never really had to do anything to get this acclaim, he's fought descent fighters but not in their prime, he wouldn't fight Zab until he got exposed by a sub par Baldomir and then Flyod thought Baldomir had a big enough name to fight him. He will never fight a TRUE young talent!!!!

You are ****ing ******ed if you really think Baldomir exposed Judah. Dumbass Judah already lost before Baldomir so that point you are trying to make is bull****.
All of yall ****ing PBF haters are hypocrites because yall sucking Cotto's **** for beating Judah but when PBF beat Judah he beat somebody who wasn't ****. Yall sucking off De la Hoya and talking about the people he fought but De la Hoya made his name from beating old and way past their prime champions so why all the critizism for PBF. Every fighter who elite or close to it De la Hoya lost to but he gets a pass because yall feel De la Hoya is such a nice guy. **** THAT

Sad but true name someone Flyod fought who he actually thought WOW this guy might beat me? I'll give him credit for being a smart tactical boxer who picks his opponents well but besides that he gets no credit from me. And yeah I think Cotto would beat PBF but I also think he needs to fight the Margarito/Williams winner first!!!! PBF will wait for Cotto to go through more wars and then try calling him out. PBF don't call out young talented guys, he's just now willing to fight HATTON and who knows how serious he is!!!!

Why would PBF feel somebody could beat him? That train of thought doesn't make sense in any part of life if you ask me especially in boxing when confidence in your abilities is a major part of how you perform. Come on man thats a dumbass question. How is he just now willing to fight Hatton when he first offered him a fight at least 2 years ago? Its not always PBF fault fights don't get made. I guess its PBF fault that Shane Mosley years ago when PBF was at 130 and Mosley was at 135 when PBF offered Mosley a fight and Mosley asked for 10 million and priced hisself out. Mosley ***** ass didn't even get that when he fought De la Hoya so how is he going to get that from PBF YEARS ago. Who the **** has Margarito, Williams, Cotto or Hatton fought for you think so highly of they're opposition? Its fine that you don't like PBF but don't be biased when you critize him because many others has done the same but you don't call them on their faults.

assuming he's not retired, floyd's hold on #1p4p is very shaky and could only be attributed to his undefeated record and belts. if pac had a cleaner record, surely he'll be #1 right now. most will say no, because pbf has more skills. yes p4p is about skills but not per se, but skills tested against top competition and how you deliver it, just like how SRR was, where p4p originated. pac may have not all the skills pbf has, but whatever he has, he's surely very brutally effective against TOP competion.

Every fighter has handpicked someone at some point. Floyd still has great accomplishments, and I think Teddy Atlas and Emmanuel Steward are more well known than Mayweather Sr.
