....Even though he's an old fart, I have always liked Larry. He's like that Grandma who just says what she thinks because she expects to get away with it at her advanced age. Larry was very good at what he did and he had a certain flare to him. He was also a big Wlad nuthugger and I'm gonna miss that. Now we have to listen to that pencil necked Kellerman prick talk **** about Wlad and suck Sam Peter's **** or perhaps some other large black mamba that he fancies. At least we don't have to listen to him talk about Byrd anymore since he seems to be completely out of the picture.Comment

hey at least he will call mayweather vs dlh i really dont want larry to leave even though he just puts out the flame in the fight with his lame quotes,
but he has been great during his tennure as an boxing analyst....
this is what i wondered.....could it be ..........
larry merchant of course works for HBO right ?
he always calls HBO fighters along with jim lampley and emanuel steward right ? is true Larry Merchant always makes negative comments about their own fighter could it be because of that interview he did to floyd after the baldomir wipe-out ?????
man i really hate larry but i wouldn't watch a fight and not hear his voice, it would take a while for me to get use to it,
i hate him but i want him to stay to call hbo fights
they really spoke bad about floyd the whole fight, i hear it and i can't bellieve it....If an HBO fighter is winning or losing the same network commentators should not dis-credit the fighter....could it be ?
**** that lame ****. you must of voted for bush. commentators should speak there mind and not be kiss asses to the higher ups. they shouls call it as they see it.Comment

if anyones ever heard larry on pedro's weekly ringtalk show i'm amazed at how layed back philosophical and concise this guy is when compared to him in front of the camera at hbo. when the guy has time to get it out in long hand
speach his point of veiw makes sense.Comment

Boxing commentary just lost a few precious brain cells. Max Kellerman is okay but he does not compare to Merchant for knowledge and wisdom. He's not even close.
You know, hearing Merchant talk about boxing always reminded me that this sport of ours is far, far deeper than just two guys trying to beat the **** out of each other. Boxing can be a morality play, and there is some extra excitement and emotional investment (and the payoffs when your man wins) to experience by getting involved with that, but above everything else the sport has always been a metaphor for the human struggle. Man vs. man (obvious), man vs. nature (fighters battling the aging process) and man vs. himself (the psychological battles that wage within the mind when a man or woman steps through those ropes) That's the main attraction it has for us. Well me anyway, and I'm the only one I can confidently speak for.
Anyway, I hope my interest in contemporary boxing doesn't wane any from this.Last edited by Kid Achilles; 04-20-2007, 09:31 PM.Comment
