I'm glad most of you guys are giving Larry the respect he deserves. He is a class act and he will be missed. Max is alright but he's got a big job ahead of him filling Larry's shoes.

Great. Now Max can tell us how Miguel Cotto is Clubber Lang and Zab Judah is Apollo Creed.

....My worst nightmare is for Kellerman to take his job. I hate that little prick and it may make me skip most of the HBO Championship boxing cards. At the very least I will have to turn the volume down and look away when he shows his dorky face.

Be that as it may, Merchant was a welcome constant, in that he was thoughtful and thought-provoking in his commentaries. For those who appreciate neither of those qualities, he had diminished appeal, so naturally you will hear the chorus of fans opining that this moment was long overdue.

Could it be something he said?

You bet. And most likely, something that somebody didn't agree with. When you're around for as long as he has been, and you have the temerity to voice an opinion that may not constitute the pursuit of safe ground, that's going to happen sooner or later.

The question is not - nor should it ever be - whether you or I always agreed with him. After all, what person of genuine thought and conviction would ever ask you to do that anyway? I didn't always sympathize with his point of view, but I could appreciate his presence in an overall sense, and that's what is most important. [details]

Sorry, but this guy was a disgrace at times, he and partner in crime Jim Lampley would attempt to influence viewers into scoring fights for HBO fighters, yes the Judges are the ones who score the fight, but they still attempt to influence viewers all the time,

The Treatment of Floyd Mayweather by Emmanuel Steward and Merchant during the Baldomir fight was one thing, where they consistenly blabbered on about how mayweather wasnt great and how he was boring,

Merchant's general disrespect for fighters he doesnt rate is another thing.

But the last straw was when he and Lampley deliberatley missed Juan Manuel Marquez clearly landing clean power shots on Barrera, then getting hyped when Barrera had shots Partially blocked.

That was a clear and cynical attempt to influence HBO viewers, i remember reading these boards once and someone saying they did the same thing to Wittaker during the De La Hoya fight.

        Disgraceful.

They had every right to say what they did in the Baldomire fight about Mayweather.. The fight WAS BORING.. What did u expect them to say.. GREAT FIGHT WITH ALOT OF ACTION!! especially after Mayweather said he was gonna stand and trade.. For being a PPV it was a disgrace, What where they supposed to do? Say what an awesome fight it was an pretend it wasn't boring or competitive?

No boxing purist can find 12 rounds of the essence of boxing, namely 'hit and not being hit'.....Boring.

How many exchanges where there in the fight? and how many punches thrown.. That wasn't hit and don't get hit, that was a running marathon for the majority of the fight.

Mayweather showed incredible skils at time before he broke his hand, dont say he didnt, cos he stopped throwing the right hand.

Look at round 5 and 6, incredible,

there werent many exchanges, Just PBF Hitting Baldy in the head with counters all night long.

                lol.

....Even though he's an old fart, I have always liked Larry. He's like that Grandma who just says what she thinks because she expects to get away with it at her advanced age. Larry was very good at what he did and he had a certain flare to him. He was also a big Wlad nuthugger and I'm gonna miss that. Now we have to listen to that pencil necked Kellerman prick talk **** about Wlad and suck Sam Peter's **** or perhaps some other large black mamba that he fancies. At least we don't have to listen to him talk about Byrd anymore since he seems to be completely out of the picture.
