I can't believe that in the middle of this thread some people were talking as if Calzaghe would have beat Roy Jones Jr in his prime.Comment

I've never really watched Calzaghe but I got to see some clips from the Manfredo fight (including the flury that ended the fight) and his style just ****ing pisses me off. The way he slaps and glances his punches makes me wanna gag myself.. but then again, it might have been just that fight. WHO KNOWS? You guys do.
Does he always slap his punches?Comment

Go to the video download section of this website and download calzaghe's fights. He is one of the best supermiddle weights(this weight class was made up in the 80's so its still a new weight class) in the history of boxing, people can dispute it by saying kesslers the real deal. Joe's the real deal, and he's a great fighter. If you carefully watch his fights, you can see he does these mind games with his opponents. He hits them softly, making them expect that he's not that powerful and just speed, but then when he gets really into it. He lets go and starts hitting them hard as hell.I've never really watched Calzaghe but I got to see some clips from the Manfredo fight (including the flury that ended the fight) and his style just ****ing pisses me off. PS:
For a slapper, he did quite well for his 20 defenses he earned. And either way, this fight would have ended with manfredo on the floor.Comment

I saw Kotv the other day with JOe v Eubank. The 1st round was something else when Joe knocked down Eubank in the first minute. Joe was like a jack in the box bouncing around and speedy. Impressive first round i must say. Joe did look dog tired in parts of the fight though.
Eubank said Michael Watson was above Joe in the second fight. So Michael watson was really good as well. But the Joe Calzaghe Eubank fought wasnt the best ever period for Joe. Joe was still learining at that stage and hadnt gone past 8 rounds. But i wont argue that Joe is the best ever. Eubank wouldnt argue it as well.Last edited by hugh grant; 04-14-2007, 06:00 AM.Comment

Joe has yet to be knocked out by any of his inferior opponents so far though. That slightly gives him the edge for me.
You obviously never saw much of Eubank and Benn. They were never big trash talkers, but to one another. Benn wasnt scared of anyone, he was too ****** to be scared and he genuinely would've fought anyone regardless of whether he knew that they would most likely paste him. I'm not entirely sure that Eubank had realised that it wasnt a pre-recorded message from Toney. Its highly unlikely that either of them were scared there. A a guy who fights for a living, you tend not to be frightened of other boxers who arent even in the same room as you.LMAO, im more interested to see what Geoff thinks of this,
Eubank sat in silence and shat his pants.
Benn ''i fought Iran Barkley and doug dewitt'' lmao,
Toney ''im not Iran Barkley or Doug dewitt, if you come over here , im gonna kick your ass' lmao
Both of them shat it and kept quiet, they knew the score.Comment

Sorry people, lets take it back to LOGIC, piece by peice, what have you people seen to suggest that Joe Calzaghe would ever have an edge over James Toney?
It's defies Logic when JC has never beaten fighter with a style like toney or as foghter as good toney.
Dont tell me Jeff Lacy fights like James Toney.
Again im english, but i dont hate american fighters as some other people clearly do, and i find it very disturbing we have people who think Joe Calzaghe (knocked down by a bum and Byron Mitchell) Nigel Benn (stopped Brutally by michael watson and Chris eubank) could ever beat a prime Roy Jones.Comment

Excuse me, if you ever adress me, dont make assumptions on who i have and have not seen when you can just ask me.

Pre-recorded message? what u talking about, they knew it was live, it was in the middle of a mickey rourke interview lol.
Neither of them wanted to fight Toney, which is why they shut up and never went over the US to the fight the legitmate 168 pound champ and a guy who became the recoginsed p4p no1 the world.
And dont tell me Nigel Benn never trash talked when i saw him face to face with Eubank (in a interview for their rematch i think) saying he hated him. lol
Not saying these guy were not class, they were, but skills wise they could never have lived witht toney and Jones, there is no shame in that, Toney and Jones are all time legends.Comment

Sorry for my ignorance but i saw that interivew when Toney talked about Benn and EUbank years ago live on tv. I didnt get the impression Benn and Eubank were scared because i didnt really know who Toney was. In retrospect i certainly didnt know how tough his chin was, because Toney was a little guy back then and not taking punches from Samuel Peters. I didnt think Benn or Eubank was scared becasue i wrongly imagined Benn would have sparked Toney out.
Benn wasnt a clairvoyant with his crystal ball seeing Toney beating Holyfield and taking bombs from Rahman and Samuel.Comment

*Groan* Why do I always get stuck debating with children.
1). Grow up.
2). If you're going to try and make forceful statements, at least try to spell the words in that statement correct 'address'.
You can tell that Eubank is not entirely sure what is going on. Hence why he asks if Toney can hear him speak. He also says something like "Can you put me through to him for a moment" at one point too. When he's sat there not saying anything in response to Toney, its quite explicable that he doesnt know that he can respond to him.Pre-recorded message? what u talking about, they knew it was live, it was in the middle of a mickey rourke interview lol.
I never said that they wanted to fight him. I said that they werent 'scared' of him and they didnt '****' when he spoke to them. Why the **** would they? He was only on the other end of a TV screen. Eubank calling someone ignorant and Nigel Benn calling someone ****** is just as insulting from their point of view as anything Toney did. Maybe Toney was scared of them...he didnt come over to England to fight them afterall.Neither of them wanted to fight Toney, which is why they shut up and never went over the US to the fight the legitmate 168 pound champ and a guy who became the recoginsed p4p no1 the world.
Dont misquote me. I said that the only people who Benn or Eubank ever REALLY trashtalked was each other. There was genuine hate between them throughout their career, it wasnt just for bigging up a fight. And dont tell me Nigel Benn never trash talked when i saw him face to face with Eubank (in a interview for their rematch i think) saying he hated him. lol
