Why does anyone trust what any promoters say about fights that aren't signed? They use the media as a tool to try to leverage better deals etc. Warren and Palle are most likely both talking the same amount of ****, trying to get the best deal for their own fighter while making the other promoter look at fault if the deal is not working out. That's how it is. How can anyone talk the word of one promoter over another? These guys are the reasons the good fights take far too long to get made.

What, so it's okay for people to harp on about Calzaghe taking a pay cut to fight in the US, but when it comes to Kessler it's a different story? Surely, if Kessler really meant business he'd take the fight for a bag of magic beans!!

Who said Calzaghe has to take a paycut? For Kessler, Calzaghe is the biggest fight around. He's not gonna take the biggest fight of his life for an average pay, as would no other fighter in the world. Warren full well knows this, which is why he made the offer. Also, Kessler has stated a while ago, that he's off untill the fall, so Warren just thought he'd make it a July date, so he was sure Kessler would decline.

I certainly wouldn't expect Calzaghe to go to the US and fight Hopkins or Taylor for less than he fought Manfredo at home. No way. I also don't expect Taylor to go to London and fight Calzaghe for half the money he made against Ouma. Again, Warren knows this, he wants a rematch against Manfredo, or maybe he wants the Latin Snake?

Kessler turned down $1.75m to fight Calzaghe? Wow. So much for money not acting as a barrier to that fight happening.

What was Kessler's actual pay for Beyer and Andrade?

$1.75 million is not a bad offer. Considering that Mormeck and Bell in their first fight fought for $200,000 each.

If money's no barrier, then Calzaghe can take it for 1.75

Yes and so should Taylor, no one should demand money to fight in the UK, the ref as allways fair, and Calzaghe is a legend around there.
Calzaghe has reaced a level were he no longer needs to fight anybody.

                  Enjoy the Inkin fight..

Calzaghe isn't the one who said he'd fight the acknowledged #1 anytime and money wouldn't be an issue.

$1.75m is a pretty big slice of the purse for a #1 contender and doesn't even to begin to factor in the potential upsides of him managing to pull off a win against Calzaghe.

This thread is quite amusing. Since when did Palle become anything more than another loud-mouth, ****-talking promoter a la Warren? It's a bit like argguing which type of cancer is more appealing.
