One of the reasons race and racism is such a big deal in our society is because people get offended at non-racist comments and label them as racist.

        no.
it was a predisposed notion about mexican boxers, not mexicans.
the context it was said in makes it not a racist comment.

It's like saying that blacks are usually in jail and do not go to college,,,and asians are a physically weak race and will never dominate any sport...everyone generalizes ..whether it's racism or prejudice ...it shouldn't be said anyways..

Also taking into account that it was made in the context of boxing and not in a social sense.
"Mexicans tend to not be smart in the ring" and "Mexicans tend to not be smart" are very different things, and one is obviously a foolish comment but another was grounded in personal experience and probably wasnt ment to be negative. Steward seems to have respect for all fighters and i think the only problem was his wording.
if a similar comment like this was said about blacks, then it would be racist, right ?

they said Donovan McNabb was ******, blacks got their panties in a bunch, but it was the truth.

I think it was something like "...and they're [referring to nacho beristan's fighters] all really intelligent boxers, and theyre from mexico!"

I could dig up the exact quote, but Im lazy. When he said that though,I laughed, and pointed it out to my brother.

Its a ****** thing to say,its a ****** stereotype that probably never been true. You could look at mexicos great fighters and find that they did really intelligent things inside the ring.

MAB,Morales,Lopez,Marquez(2x),Sanchez...you could look at JCC's career,he didnt get by just on brawling, none of these guys did.
