He made a comment along the lines that Mexicans generally aren't smart fighters. He said he was surprised that they were fighting smart (not completely accurate someone help with exact quote). I forgot what fight it was during. It wasn't on purpose though I don't think he was aware of how it came off. But his main point I guess was that Mexican fighters generally fight with their heart and go all out. As opposed to picking your spots.
Did anybody notice the blatant racist comment Stewart made??

I agree with the guy, pretty much. Some do pick their spots, but there ain't been no Sugar Rays, for sure. I don't think it's racist at all. Not really I was just wondering if anybody caught the quote because the way he stated it seemed racist even though it was unintentional.Comment

I definitly wouldnt qualify the remark as "racist." to me it seemed as though he was making a statement supported by the vast array of fights he has seen. It also wasnt a negative thing that he was pointing out.
Also taking into account that it was made in the context of boxing and not in a social sense.
"Mexicans tend to not be smart in the ring" and "Mexicans tend to not be smart" are very different things, and one is obviously a foolish comment but another was grounded in personal experience and probably wasnt ment to be negative. Steward seems to have respect for all fighters and i think the only problem was his wording.Comment

"A belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others."
"Hatred or intolerance of another race or other races."
"The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others."
Three different definitions of racist and according to them Stewards comment clearly was not racist.
In order for a comment to be racist it cannot be unintentional.Comment

Very possible to say something racist and not know what you said was harmful. It happens all the time. I'm not complaining I just thought it came off wrong.Comment
