Holyfield can beat Maskaev I think. Soon Maskaev is going to lose to either Klitshcko or Sam Peter, and at that point there are no alphabet titles Holyfield can win. He can actually maybe beat Briggs if Briggs just stands there and doesn't do anything for 12 rounds Holyfield might win a decision. If Briggs comes to fight though he'll beat Holyfield.

It doesn't matter how you do it all you have to do is win .So Evander has hung with a top 15 heavyweight. He did not demolish him. He did not make him look silly. He did not dominate and humiliate him- he hung with him. He had a solid fight. Then he knocked out Madalone- a guy who was KOed twice by Brian Minto. Umm...so are we saying Minto is ready to be champion? He did the same thing Evander did, maybe it took him a bit longer, but why dismiss him?? Madalone is not the yardstick of champions. Not at all.
Evander looked sharp. Good. If you really want to root for him have him fight another legitimate heavyweight- but not a champion. Have him fight a Brock or even a McCline- see where he stands now. Beating Madalone does not make him ready for a championship. That's overboard. Do you really think he's ready to step up with Briggs? Really? I have to disagree.
I see no reason why he wouldn't give Briigs a tough fight.
JT beat him with tech ability not power.
Holyfield has wen't 20 with Bowe ,took shots from Tyson, 24 rounds with Lewis, his chin will stand up to power.
What he can't do is fight with a good mover or some one who will out box him round after round like Toney and Byrd did.
Briggs is none of this .Comment

Absolutely. He needs a fight against a gate-keeper fighter to see if he still has what it takes. He's shown that he still has something left, we just don't know if it's enough, but the fact of the matter is that the champions are vulnerable; it's not like these guys are a prime Lewis and Tyson, they're beatable. He could outbox the likes of Maskeav and Briggs, but at the same time he could take very heavy blows and lose. Who knows, but he's getting further up the queue.

im getting tired of people referencing george foreman to make the point that holy can still win...
foreman was able to do it cause he was the greatest physical specimen to ever step foot ina boxing ring... and he had knockout power that holyfield cant even dream of
holyfield is a natural cruiserweight, it was quite an accomplishment for him to even win a heavyweight title.. whereas people thought george foreman was unbeatable in an era with frazier, ali, lyle, norton, shavers etc...
even foreman wouldnt have been able to pull it off without the outright ignorance and arrogance of a natural light heavyweight michael moorer...
furthermore the 44 year old foreman knocked out the guy who defeated a near prime holyfield.....
44 year old foreman would murder 44 year old holyfield. period.Comment

When Tyson was champion you were rooting for the rough, crazy bad ass that would first scare the **** out of his opponent and then knock them out.
When Lewis was around you were going for the English gentlemen who could still put you down.
Recent champions have had skill, yes, but more than that I think it was a marketablity. A personality that made them easy to digest by the media- for good or bad. None of our champions have that.
I'm saying I think part of this Holyfield argument has to do with missing the past and using emotion over logic. Holyfield is liked because of who he is- what he represents in the old heavyweight division, etc. The champions are weak but I think it's downright disrespectful to think an old man can beat them solely because they haven't proven to be amazing. They are still professionals and none of them are downright ****.
People are looking at Holyfield's rise and allowing him to be a vulture here. "I think Maskaev is older and weak at this point in his career...Evander could take that.." or "Briggs can be slow...maybe Holyfield can out box him and steal that fight..." No one is saying he is going to come in and tear up the division. They are saying he might be able to beat one of the weaker champions- and then what? Fall to a young mandatory? **** up the division more? Don't let your heart silence your head.Comment

Moorer beat Holyfield because this was the fight that Holy first pulled his shoulder.
And Holy has boxing ability that Foreman can ever dream of.
People act like the man has no power yet his Ko% is pretty damn good.
He doesn't have to knock people clean out in order to get a ko.
Lewis said just a few weeks ago that Holyfied had some of the hardest body shots he ever felt.
I can't disagee with the middle part
Also true.
We will never know but I think he would give him a better fight then you're giving him credit for.Comment

everyone is going wayyy overboard here. maddalone is a human punching bag with 0 ability. do we forget a shot al cole beat this guy to a pulp in a one sided fight? sure evander looked good but he did have the perfect opponent right in front of him. put a top 10 guy like brock there and I think he loses in a one sided fightWhat impressed me most was how coherent he sounded in the post fight interview. He beat a decent heavyweight, though a guy in Maddalone who should hang them up already. I think with 2 more fights, and wins, against top 15 opponents should get him a deserved shot against the 'big' boys.Comment
