Iron jaw? Well cast iron was notorious for being brittle.

Yes, but McCall had a very good chin, and yes, you can't discount the fact that Oliver McCall COULD POSSIBLY have KO'd Lennox, but you couldn't discount that fact against many of Lewis's opponents (certainly after he had been KO'd!). The fact is that Lewis was much the better fighter despite the KO loss.

First like to point out that I don't believe Lewis has an "Iron Jaw", it is just what the title of the video was called on Youtube.

I do think Lewis had a good chin, just not "great."

If you look at the two shots that put him on his ass, they were pretty big shots.

Rahman threw everything into the punch, while Lewis was turned to the side with his chin exposed like Britney's *****. Rahman's punch was a monster of a shot.

McCall also had his weight behind his punch, Lewis didn't even see it coming, and it was another shot right on the chin.

Remember, we are talking about some big men with good pop.

Vitali hurt him, but couldn't get him out of there, so the debate could go on about if Vitali just lacks power or is Lewis's chin better than the "glass" term so often used.

I'm not arguing that. It's just sad that Oliver was forced to fight when he wasn't mentally and physically ready.

Lewis' chin was not great, but it was adequate for a heavyweight champion with the technical capabilities of Lewis.

It was his complaceny and sometimes his arrogance that got him into trouble. He was forever striving to prove that he was the best in a time that simply wasnt all that good (although it was great compared to now), where he was never going to get credit for not fighting prime Tyson or prime Holyfield, or prime Bowe etc (not saying it was his fault) and so he was always trying to prove himself in ways that he shouldnt have. This led to him getting involved in brawls where he should've boxed, underestimating his opponents and leaving his chin hang out to dry sometimes when he should've known better (afterall, he smiled at Rahman just before he was knocked out). These were Lewis' downfall and its this quality that put his legacy in doubt rather than securing it. Because people say things like "Well, if Rahman could knock him out, imagine what prime Tyson could do...he would only have to slip up once and he'd be out of there" etc.

David Tua walked into a punch from the great Felix Savon and was knocked to the canvass. When he got back up he stumbled and the referee stopped it, and rightly so. So the question is, does getting knocked out mean you have a glass jaw? The correct answer is NO! Anybody can get caught with a perfect shot. As it happens David Tua got caught once, Lennox Lewis was caught twice.

Perhaps. The criticism certainly should be orientated with why did he allow himself to take a flush shot twice rather than 'why did he get knocked out by them'.

Ok, but you could ask that same question about Joe Louis or any other great champion.
