Had he stayed against world level opposition constantly like most fighters now adays and didnt wait till around his 50th fight to shoot for a title than his record would be nothing like it is.
Damn you need to shut the **** up all ready, who in the **** has 90 big fights? If you name one I'll send you 50 bucks through paypal. Chavez had 40 fights against bums before his real test because he had no amateur experience. Chavez took on a lot of easy fights through out his career in order to kept himself busy and sharp. You guys act like the man walked around town bragging he was the man because of his big record. Chavez just fought a lot, get over it.

Overrated how? And by whom? No one rates him as the best all-time at any weight class and his best Mexican ever tag has been loose as well. The starter of this topic though is ignorant or just having fun...beat bums between Mayweather and Rosario? Martinez, Castillo, Lockridge, and Laporte were bums? News to me. Sure, he fought some slack but who didn't? He ruined Mel Taylor, and had lots of solids like Tony Lopez, Haugen, Alli and even drew in a war with Gonzalez way late in his career. He was no worse than top five all-time at 130 and 140 and was probably top fifteen at 135. Good enough for me.

Great Post. He has become underrated on this site imo opinion. Why is Azumah Nelson not bashed for beating Mario Martinez for a title like Chavez is. He fought the best around. Guys like Haugen, and Terrence Alli were in the Ring top ten at the time Chavez annihilated them. They were considered challenges at the time, why they are bums now I don't know.

Everybody thats Calling him overated probably didnt see most of his fights Chavez fought at his peak in the late 80's and early 90's so I know alot of these young punks in here wernt even watching boxing at that time. The way I look at it if you wernt around in a boxers time then you cant really say he's overated because you dont even know who was who back then. LAMES!!!

JCC was old school, where fighters would fight a lot. Like Ray Robinson etc. Now days fighters only fight 1-3 fights a year max.

James Toney used to fight in Non Title Fights regularly against bad fighters to stay sharp at Middle and Super Middle on ESPN quite alot.
