Marciano often gets credit for being a top 3-5 heavyweight of all-time. Why is that? He was extremely protected coming up, possibly the most protected future heavyweight champion in history. He then fights aging fighters like Joe Louis and Lee Savold, and guys who were built up by padded records themselves like Harry Kid Matthews. H did manage to beat good fighters like Rex Layne, and Carmine Vingo, although they themselves were very green. The best guy he fought pre-title was probably Roland LaStarza, and most people (including LaStarza) thought it was a gift win. He wins the title from another aging fighter in Walcott, and then after rematching a completely shot version of Jersey Joe, takes advantage of a not 100% version of LaStarza. He goes life and death twice with the ceramic jawed Ezzard Charles, who was a far cry from the fighter he was during the turn of the half-century. Then Rocky fights a fat tub of lard from Britain, (who didn't have any business getting a title shot in the first place) Don ****ell, and then get's the shock of his life from a pensioned-off Archie Moore before finally getting on top of him.

Most people rank him the way they do because he was undefeated. But the competition paled in comparison to Ali's, Liston's, Lewis', or even Louis' or Tyson's competition (during his first title reign of course). He was only 185-190, and 5'-10 or 11". how good could someone like that be. His skills were horrendous, yet because of "heart" alone, many have him beating guys like Tyson, Lewis, Holmes and Ali? Rocky's resume wasn't extremely terrible, but IMO it's not enough to get ranked in the top 3 or even top 5, period.
I can't disagree with that. Rocky was the biggest over acheiver in the history of the Sport. Without Charlie Goldman he would have never made it. He trained so much harder than anyone and that is what made the difference. He did more with less than anyone imo.

The most over rated to me will be Audley harrison, after this dude won the gold at olympics at age 29 (can u believe that) the media hyped him as the saviour of the HW, got exposed so badly that he is the saviour of the joke weight

I must admit that I was following your argument and agreeing with a lot of what you were saying. All until you claimed Rocky's skills were 'horrendous'.

Most unskilled HW champion, or atleast that's ranked in the Top10 ever. George Foreman. Literally everyone rates him top 5, he could never ever be outslugged by anyone, was the hardest puncher ever, and only Ali would be durable enough to survive his amateurish onslaught? All that crap puts him up there.

Gerry Cooney for me. He fought nobody but bums until he fought an aging Ken Norton. Larry Holmes who was the champ at the time didn't get no respect. Cooney was hyped bigtime for certain reasons and even when they introduced the fighters Holmes was introduced first even though he was the champ. Then Holmes exposed him.
