This thread cannot be complete without at least one mention of Roy Jones Junior. You're welcome.

Honorable mention has to go to Mayweather who is certainly positioning himself to be competitive for this dubious title.

Boxing is full of over-rated fighters.

Ali, as one of the top heavyweights of all time, who fought all of the best - during the best era for his weight class ever - cannot possibly be considered among the most over-rated.

To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.

Thats the definition. People who say Ali is overrated is not bashing him at all. He even says HIMSELF that SRR is the best boxer that ever lived. So in his own opinion if someone said he was better, Im sure he would agree that you were overrating him.

The question is not "Who is over-rated?" but "Who is the MOST over-rated fighter of all-time?"

There is no heavyweight better than ali and thats all that really matters. People are not gonna give a **** about p4p garbage, actually the bigger guys deserve more credit. Ali can fight guys like twice his size, while willie pep and ray leonard are gonna fight guys that weigh the exact same.
Could he? He never proved it. Most guys Ali fought were his weight or smaller, or a few pounds heavier at most. Dempsey, Louis, and Marciano were the giant killers of heavyweight history.

Take Marciano off that "Giant killer" list and I agree.

Seriously, who did Marciano beat over 200 pounds?

I also agree with the P4P as being bull****, it is. Heavyweights are the best, plain and simple.

Rex Layne, Carmine Vingo were over 200 lbs each. He fought a few other men coming up who were over 200 lbs, but no one as good as Layne or Vingo. But he spotted weight in the vast majority of his fights, even if the men weren't giants. I believe there were 2-3 fights in which Marciano actually had a weight advantage. So to pair him with Louis and Dempsey as a giant killer was a bit of an exaggeration, but he fought men his size and bigger more often than Ali.

I know im going to get crap for this...but Jack Dempsey. As for his ability in the ring, I wont go there, because I simply have not seen enough of him I think, so I wont go there.

But I think his record and career is a bit overrated. He defended his title 6 times over 7 years as a champion...and from what I heard, refused to fight black fighters, although Ill admit right away I dont know if there were any deserving of a title shot or not...and his overall record really doesnt look all that impressive on paper...

i wont touch on his skills, cause like i said, i dont really know enough...but I think he could have made a lot more of his career to get all of the respect and fame he does now. I think a lot of it was mostly that he was so big outside the ring.
