Hard to tell since we really don't know how fast Langford was during his time. From what I've read about Sam, if he was given a shot at the heavyweight title, he would have been champ for a long time. BTW, it's impressive that most writers would list Langford in their p4p list of all time w/o having won a belt. Speaks volumes about his talent. In Bert Sugar's latest edition of "Boxing's Greatest Fighters", Langford comes in at number 16...

Like I said....thick talent pool, man. Those are some mighty big names you reeled off. Burley is quite possilby one of the most underrated fighters of all time. Charles was quite possibly the best light-heavy who ever lived. Williams was great, Marciano was a natural heavyweight, etc.

        Thick Talen Pool....Thick!

No arguement there either. I'd have it second only to the 1970's.

Sure does, and in those times, the heavyweight championship of the world was held in high regard, and had tones of racial superiority as well. Reason why there was a mad scramble to find the "great white hope" after Jack won the belt.

I'm the biggest Langford mark in the world but he held his hands too low and is not going to beat Roy in a pure boxing match. If he is able to trap Roy on the ropes he'd have a good chance at getting the knockout but I think Roy would do his best in this fight to keep it in the middle of the ring.. I see the fight being a lot like Jones vs Paz as both Paz and Lang had good hand speed and can slug but as seen in that fight a prime Roy was able to keep his opponent off balance with his own movement. As Muhammad Ali once said "Your hands can't hit what your eyes can't see". Which would never be truer then in the case of a Langford, Jones fight as Langford spent many years of his career legally blind. Sam's poor eye sight mixed with the amazing speed of Jones leads me to believe that RJ would pick up a UD in the end.

Only crazy people who don't watch enough footage of each era gives a chance to a novice, that nobody even made pro fighting like even in amateurs in 70s
