I am confident that my style would make it very difficult for him and would lead to me winning". Whereas Floyd says stuff like "Hatton does not deserve to be in the same ring as me, he isnt fit to tie my boot laces. I will destroy him and then he will mow my garden and shine my shoes".

Surely you can see why its easier to defend the statements of one than the other, right?
I think one is just more honest than the other, hatton says he great and the best and gives all the accolades and then turns around and sneaks in a jab right after he said he was the best. It's one thing to think you can win, but it's another when you say he is the best but boring. and then add to the fact that he has rejected offers and make outlandish counteroffers like 13 M, get in the ring Ricky, you've had enought tune-ups...

You seem to be missing the point mate. All boxers say that they are going to win, all boxers think that they are great. They NEED that confidence. It would be very difficult to go into a fight thinking that you were going to lose, you HAVE to build yourself up like that.

Now, its one thing to build yourself up while still recognising the skills, ability and worth of the other fighter. Its something very different to try and build yourself up by belittling the other boxer and their achievements. Now, admittedly, they are both just fronts and motivational as well as promotional tools. But one way is likely to make you seem like a good boxer as well as a good guy, which will win you plaudits. The other way makes you look like a good boxer, but a prick. Unless of course you have the win, venacular and style of someone like Ali. Which sadly PBF does not have. As such, he quite rightly widely gets criticism for such comments from everyone but the pro-Floyd crowd.
