But now his dad Ray has revealed that the Hitman was on the verge of having to pull out after being hit by a chest infection 10 days before the bout.

And he claims this was the reason his son's stamina appeared to be a problem in the later rounds.

He told The Daily Express: "People have said Ricky looked jaded in the second half of the fight and I'm not surprised.

"Ricky suffered a really bad chest infection in the lead-up to the fight while out in Las Vegas.

"The doctor said it would linger for weeks. We carried on, but if the infection had started a few days later, we'd have pulled him out."

Hatton now has time to recuperate before his next appearance - against Jose Luis Castillo in Vegas in June.

That explains why he looked so weak and sloppy then.

Yeah so...Manny fought Morales with the flu in the 3rd fight. Infact he had doubts going into the fight until he heard the national anthems play and he couldn't turn around then. That didn't prevent him from putting on a god like performance in 3 easy rounds. Something Hatton can't do at his best.

Hatton didn't performed well against Collazo because of the weight. Now he was not impressive against Urango because of a chest infection.
I suppose that winning eleven out of 12 rounds beng regarded as unimpressive just shows the standards that Hatton is held to. I'd take it as a compliment.

lol, GEOFFHAYES always trying to justify that lil ***** Hatton.
Hatton, the night you fight Cotto or Floyd (maybe even Jose Luis Castillo), there will be no excuses...

I still say Hatton beats Castillio...

Even though the ugly performance will be due to Carpal Tunnel and a mild case of human papilloma virus that he just got over during training.

Hatton seemed to clinch slightly less, although I could be wrong, I was heavily drinking. Hatton vs. Castillo will be nice.

And you call that impresive? I'll tell you what is impressive . . . son.

Duran beating Leonard on points in their first fight was impressive. Morales beating Pacquiao on points also in their first fight was impressive. Mosley beating De la Hoya on points was impressive. You know what's common on these fights? These are closely contested fights between equally skilled and named fighters.

So kid, Hatton winning eleven out of twelve rounds against a medicore Urango doesn't mean that it's already impressive. A fighter who clinches and hugs just to survive and get a victory will never be impressive in my eyes.

He wasn't clinching for survival. He was just gradually easing down on the gas pedal. He didn't look exhausted at the end, maybe a little tired.i Thought Urango won 2 rounds, and one of them rounds could have gone either way.

Oh YEAH maybe he's not clinching for survival, maybe he just wanted to win the rounds by tieing up the opponent while he is sneaking in his punches . . . what ever . . . my question is . . . do you find that impressive?

Maybe Hatton is in the wrong sport buddy, he should be grappling his way to victory in the UFC.

HAHAHAHAHA in the UFC! Oh boy I can't stand it! Next you'll make the comment about John Ruiz and I'll be laughing all morning!

Seriously did you watch the fight or just read about it on a Hatton hating message board?

What people need to realise is that Hatton doesnt need to and hasnt tried to justify anything.

He WON, he won comfortably, he didnt get any cuts, didnt get particularly hurt, didnt expend too much energy, didnt put himself at much risk, didnt leave any doubt in the result, he won the belt, he protected his undefeated record.

He also did not mention or make any excuses about chest infections. What he did say is that he was pleased with his performance and that he did take a few body shots that he registered and knows that he needs to work on and quite deliberately slowed down the match with his clinching. Why would he make up excuses if he was pleased? Answer...he didnt.
