No a lot of people actually hoped and thought that Gatti would/could win. Gatti is very popular especailly in the tri-state area where his fight was fought, they didn't go there to watch Gatti get beat up they went to cheer for Gatti. The whole theme of the Gatti fans were that PBF wouldn't be able to hurt Gatti and would PBF be able to take Gatti's power (since PBF was coming up in weight). PBF wasn't very popular prior to this so not many knew a whole lot about PBF so only hardcore fans knew how one sided this fight probably was.

I don't know anyone and havent read anyone who thought gatti had a snowball in hell's chance, and if anyone did then they were kidding themselves. No a lot of people actually hoped and thought that Gatti would/could win. He fought entirely the wrong fight, anyway, trying to stand off and box. He should have gone in all guns blazing. Still probably woulda got picked off but it would have been less humiliating for him lolComment

The type of people who thought Gatti could win aren't the kind of informed viewers that visit boxing forums. Gatti is HUGe in the tri-state area, similar to DLH who is famous even with women and the most casual of boxing fans. These people thought he could win and that it was all a matter of Gatti putting leather and making it into a fightI don't know anyone and havent read anyone who thought gatti had a snowball in hell's chance, and if anyone did then they were kidding themselves.

that fight put PBF into the upper eschelon of popularity, its fights like that in the public eye that do that, then of course, the scrutiny that comes with being on top. People like hatton can afford to be hypocritical, shooting off at the mouth etc, because Hatton hasnt had that real career defining fight where he really puts it on someone in the public eye. The tszyu fight frankly to this day has done nothing more than give him a great win, but it wasnt that super impressive win to put him over with the general public (here), because his last 2 fights on HBO have been a bunch of crap. Hatton really needs that PBF fight, because if he beats castillo like he did Urango, punch, clinch, punch, clinch, the win will do nothing for him.The type of people who thought Gatti could win aren't the kind of informed viewers that visit boxing forums. I agree. Hatton hasn't hit it big in the US in terms of popularity because he fights like a mini John Ruiz. He's popular in the UK, though, because they don't have very many good fighters who can compete on the world stage. No matter how ugly Hatton's fights are, he's British so they will support him. In the US, it doesn't work that way. That's why Mexicans are very popular here. They always provide great fights...that fight put PBF into the upper eschelon of popularity, its fights like that in the public eye that do that, then of course, the scrutiny that comes with being on top. The reason is not clear? Oh yes it is very clear dude. Hatton wants to make a name for himself by name dropping the No 1 p4p fighter all the time.I think it's pretty damn obvious Hatton has a strange obsession with Mayweather. At every opportunity, Hatton doesn't fail to bring up Mayweather's name for one reason or another. Here are just a few instances:
-In various interviews he's said Floyd is the best fighter in the world P4P and that would be a dream fight for him.
-After the Baldomir fight, he said Floyd looked like Russell Crowe but fought like Sheryl Crow.
-In his post fight interview after the Urango fight, Hatton said he wanted to fight in Vegas because all the greats have fought there. The first great he names? Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
-At the post fight press conference, he says Mayweather-DLH will be a boring fight and people should watch Hatton-Castillo for an exciting fight. Last time I checked, these fights aren't even competing with each other. They are a month apart. What is the point of even bringing up Mayweather-DLH? Is Hatton Mayweather's publicist?
The obsession is clear, but the reason is not. Why the hell does Hatton keep bringing up Mayweather's name? At first you would think it's to try and score a fight with him, but Hatton has clearly been ducking him for over 2 years and it was written into Hatton's contract with HBO that he would not have to face Mayweather. So it definetely can't be because Hatton wants to fight him. Anyone have any idea why Hatton is obsessed with Mayweather?
Very simple!Comment

-He talks about Mayweather as a boring fighter, yet Hatton himself doesn't realize his last few fights have been painful to watch. Hatton needs to realize hugging is not entertaining.
