Why on earth would he be?

Augustus is an exciting fighter and nobody was making thread after thread, flooding the board with Augustus predictions or even threads about him. The few threads I saw leading up to the Kid Diamond fight were titled: "Kid Diamond Returns"....you know why? because Augustus took the fight on short notice. I don't understand how someone who has made his entire career off fighting short notice bouts and losing on judges scorecards....could be considered "overrated".

If anything he's underrated because he's never been in any type of "P4P" list and I certainly haven't seen him hold a credible ranking. The thing he is....is tricky to fight. He showed that against Floyd and by losing in fights where the majority consensus was that he deserved the decision.

I'm also thoroughly convinced that many of the people who are very critical of Augustus.....haven't really seen many fights of his and the fight against Kid Diamond (Since it was a losing effort) gives them more fuel to hate. I know for sure DiegoFuego as well as a select few might have seen 1 or 2 Augustus fights total....and that's what they base their opinion on.

There's really nothing worse that misinformed people simply hating on things they know nothing about....we see this all to often in the case of Margarito as well. It's that whole "Hating on a fighter because it's the cool thing to do".

That's because he should never have got within a million miles of a pound for pound list and never ever deserved a top 10 ranking.

Most people who have an opinion on the guy seem to overrate him: People who think he could hang with the Hattons of this world. They overrate him.

He is a reasonably dangerous journeyman who has had a few questionable decisions go against him and now cries foul if a fight is reasonably close.

LOL that's ****ing laughable. He's so under ****ing rated it's not even funny. I think people need to refer back to the definition of "overrated"
Is this directed at me, Senor? And the post above that?

There's no need to swear like that. This is what I'm talking about... you used to be able to put your point of view across and discuss stuff without name-calling and being abusive. When you talk like this you sound like Bozo. I'm not dis*****g the validity of your opinions, I'm question the way you say them. Do you really want NSB to be full of people saying "****" to one another all the time?

For the record, I actually LIKE Augustus, but have never seen anything that tells me he's a world class operator capable of winning a serious title, outside of giving Floyd a few problems.

Put him in with a guy ranked around the top 30 and he looks **** hot... but when he steps up he doesn't quite deliver, and not ALL of his "robberies" WERE robberies.

And by "overrated", my definition of it is overrated on THIS BOARD.

Augustus is way, way overrated. He is a ****ing journeyman, yet people talk about him like he's a top 10 level fighter. There were people thinking he would beat Kid Diamond last night. He's got 28 losses and he's earned 20 of them. He's trash...

See, I wouldn't go so far as to call him "trash", either, I'd be somewhere in the middle.

Stylistically he may have given Floyd problems, but styles make fights. I'm sure if he got in the ring with Cotto or the Paler (note: I am NOT saying Cotto or the Paler is better than Floyd, I'm talking about styles, here) they'd **** him. He'd definitely not get time to do that dancing ****.

lol Beautiful phrase! But I don't agree. Danny was far more overrated.
This opinion should born when Augustus wins and beats credible opponent. And when Emmanuel lost the fight that was accepted a few days before it took place it's simply unfair.

And for the comment made about Augustus a few years or months back could have beaten Diamond, that is just insane.
False. Augustus has looked much better in the past. As you get older, it is hard to fight at a weight you are not accustomed to...especially on two days notice. As a young fighter, I can attest to how hard it is without being 32 or 33 with 67 fights on your ledger.

Perhaps at 140, and with a month's notice, Augustus will look much better in the future.

Clearly, Diamond would have a rough time beating the Augustus that fought Ward and Trujillo; a very rough time.

Augustus is not overrated. If anything, he's just old.

Talking about Hatton vs Augustus as an excuse for saying Emmanuel is overrated is unfair, because very few people have said that Emmanuel could beat Hatton.

But if you're saying he couldn't, you're saying that Augustus couldn't beat either

                  A. The No.1 fighter at 140; or

                  B. The green teef Brit f.ag who beat an old zoo and is really only top ten

(delete as applicable depending on extremity of view).

Either way, you're saying that Augustus couldn't hang at the top/top five/top ten of the division, which is all I was saying. He's overrated in that some people think he can, and all he needs is the shot.

Why the hell would any fighter in their right mind take a fight on a few days notice? He deserved to loss for underestimating and not showing respect to his opponent.

thanks for the info. i was wondering what he's doing at 137. he's older and going down a weight class is suicide.
