Kid Diamond Dominates Augustus in Win

I have to say Im somewhat dissappointed in Diamond.

He was supposed to be this wild brawler who walked right thru his opponents.

Watch his fights with Lamar Murphy and Koba Gogaladze, he absolute hunted them down and beat the living piss out of them.

Most think he beat Casamayor with that same "hunter" style but something has changed. I was absolutely shocked with his KO loss to the badly badly faded Nate Campbell and frankly this appears tobe Diamonds "turning point" as a fighter.

Diamond will never reached the expectations many had of him pre-Nate Campbell.

i dont think augustus should retire if he doesnt want to. He still has a lot left. But as for that title he was after, i really doubt its gonna come.

Augustus of 5 years ago stops that diamond within 10 rounds. That jab just wouldnt have landed and he would have countered a lot more effectively.

Its really upsetting for me as a HUGE fan of his for all these years, to say that Augustus can not hang in their with best of them anymore.

And he will retire without ever getting the oppurtunity to show his greatness on a big TV program, an oppurtunity he deserved so much for the shows he put on.

But, lets say that Some big name fighter gives Augustus a few months to train for the fight, i would want Augustus to take the fight. He may just be getting to old to take fights with younger guys on that short of notice. He may need a lot more time now. It may not just be dimished skills. but maybe thats just wishful thinking.

Are you kidding? Augustus has always been an average fighter who's just popular because he's a clown. Any ranked fighter at any point in his career would have whipped his ass. He's the most overrated journeyman ever...

agreed to an extent.

augustus is not exactly a fighter u say "well 5 years ago he would've easily won" when he loses to a contender.

5-6 years ago he lost by a wide margin to dorin, and lost a close one to ward.

he is what he is, a fairly talented and skilled but inconsistent journeyman.

does diamond have a new trainer? his right hand was nothing like what I remember.He does seem,I dont know,gun shy maybe,but more than that like he dosent put anything behind his punches anymore.

I dont think he had a new trainer, I thought it was always Miguel Diaz but your right he is gunshy which completely alters what made him a potential star.

I was disapointed in Augustus, not that he didn't do his drunken style, but that he could have done better. The few times he threw combos a nd pressured Kid he did good. But he rarely did it. I'm sure Kid's jab was part of the reason for it b/c he was using it effectively, but Augustus should have tried a lot harder. It seemed like he didn't want to fight, but then he said no to throwing in the towel.

All of this criticism is ridiculous.

Augustus is an exciting fighter and nobody was making thread after thread, flooding the board with Augustus predictions or even threads about him. The few threads I saw leading up to the Kid Diamond fight were titled: "Kid Diamond Returns"....you know why? because Augustus took the fight on short notice. I don't understand how someone who has made his entire career off fighting short notice bouts and losing on judges scorecards....could be considered "overrated".

If anything he's underrated because he's never been in any type of "P4P" list and I certainly haven't seen him hold a credible ranking. The thing he is....is tricky to fight. He showed that against Floyd and by losing in fights where the majority consensus was that he deserved the decision.

I'm also thoroughly convinced that many of the people who are very critical of Augustus.....haven't really seen many fights of his and the fight against Kid Diamond (Since it was a losing effort) gives them more fuel to hate. I know for sure DiegoFuego as well as a select few might have seen 1 or 2 Augustus fights total....and that's what they base their opinion on.

There's really nothing worse that misinformed people simply hating on things they know nothing about....we see this all to often in the case of Margarito as well. It's that whole "Hating on a fighter because it's the cool thing to do".
