Impressed with Peter last night... to an extent

Wlad hurt Peter with left hook in the 12th after landing DOZENS of straight rights throughout the fight. The kind of straight rights that usually end the fight with other guys. He also held him for about a total of 6 minutes throughout the fight and leaned on him. Sam was spent when tht left landed.Comment

I dont think he has the physical strength to do that. He might match Wlad in strength, but I cant see him overpower Wlad in a clinch. Wlad has a lot of leverage to work with when he leans on people. He can really push off his feet, were Peters legs are fully extended.Comment

he didnt land "dozens" of right hands,,,he only landed a few and he wasnt really punching through the target as he usually does because he was afraid of being countered. it was his jab that won him the fightWlad hurt Peter with left hook in the 12th after landing DOZENS of straight rights throughout the fight. Of course you've got to be impressed with the guy somehow.
Irregardless how it happened, when a fighter gets a unanimous decission over another fighter who is being regarded as one of the most technically sound and among the best in the division it's got to be something to be imprssed with.
After all it was Toney who was expected to box his way to victory on this one.Last edited by psychopath; 01-07-2007, 05:32 PM.Comment

Well I take nothing away from Peter.
I see two guys in the division. Peter and Wlad now.
Both can take anyone out in the top 10. And Peter eventualy loosing out to Wlad.Comment

To say I was surprised at how great Peter looked last night would be putting it mildly. Wow! IMO, Sam Peter has improved immensly since the first fight and is light years ahead of were he was 2 year ago.
The improvements I noticed were as follows:
The Jab: Peter throws more constantly, doubles it up, is more accurate and his timing is better.
Punches in general: In the rematch, his punches are straighter than we're used to and more accurate as well.
Stamina: Peter is throwing more punches and paces himself so he doesn't run out of gas. Peter started early and finished the fight strong showing that his conditioning has paid off.Comment
