Hey Anorak, where did you watch the fight? on what channel? will sky sports repeat it...?
Impressed with Peter last night... to an extent

Listen, the guy's yet to beat a legitimate heavyweight (sorry, I love James Toney as much as the next guy, but he's getting old really fast these days and is NOT a real heavyweight) but I've got to give him credit for his advances in the sport.
The guy himself knows that he's not the most technically adept heavy out there, but his humility on this, combined with his advancements every time he fights are to his credit.
Sure, Toney looked slower and easier to hit than I've ever seen him last night, but Peter showed a willingness to learn and improve his arsenal - as well as adapt to the opponent - that deserves commending.
I had the first fight ISTR 116-111 Toney... this was 118-109 Peter on my card. If nothing else, I loved the showboating he did in the tenth and the dancing at the end was classic.
I'm still not entirely convinced he hits as hard as touted, but I'm getting there. But can you imagine how much of a force this guy would be if he could really box? He was a lot more precise last night, and several steps up from the incredibly crude slugger he was only a few fights back. Nice guy, too.
Great post, I agree for the most part, I couldn't really tell you if it was Peter's lack of power or Toney's HW chin, but Peter's ability to out jab & generally outbox Toney has made a me a fan. I originally thought Toney was gonna make adjustments to make this a less competitive fight, but it was Peter who came with the best game plan. Peter might not be the best in the division, but he' on the way up, & I'd have to agree with his statement, Toney has made him a better fighter.Comment

Wlad fought a measured fight last time, if he fights the same way as last time he will beat Peter again but if he goes there to hurt him he will get hurt himself, Wlad has to jab and keep him at bay, if he goes to the offensive its not going to work against Sam because he will suddenly get caught from with a shot.
We should see Wlad vs Peter II in a Unification...Peter has certainly improved, no question Wlad is #1 and Peter needs him.
Almost everyone knew Brock and Byrd were going to get stopped before the 6th, but when it comes to guys like Briggs and Peter its not clever to fight them Offensively because they do have Power/ are evenly matched in size, and anyone can do anything with one punch in the HW Division.
...Don't forget that with limited output Wlad hurt Peter in the last round. Peter will have better offensive output and the only way for Wlad to derail him and keep him off is to step up the offense on his end. I would expect Wlad to not be as cautious as he was the first time and use his offense as his best defense. Wlad knows he can hurt Peter.Comment

Thats true but Peter had **** stamina in the Wlad fight, his stamina has improved and he has showed recently he can go 12 rounds without getting tired, thats the main threat now. I expect we will see a better fighter in Peter in 2007....Don't forget that with limited output Wlad hurt Peter in the last round. Peter will have better offensive output and the only way for Wlad to derail him and keep him off is to step up the offense on his end. ...That's kind of my point though. Peter will be more offensive and better able to carry on a sustained attack if Wlad lets it go to the later rounds. IMO he can't keep him off that long with better offense and improved stamina on Peters part. Wlad needs to take him out in the 6-9 range to avoid being taken out himself in late rounds.Comment
