      In the US it's only been around for about a dozen years but No Holds Barred fighting has been around since the 1800's. I have also read lately that the first traces of NHB was way back in 648 B.C. in the Olympics with Pankration fighting.

      Probably hasn't been around as far back as boxing but it's been around for a very long time and just like boxing had to get it's start somewhere so does MMA.

      I agree with alot of people here though, Hectari does seem to be obsessed with killing off boxing.

        Even if ufc dies out in america, which i doubt. Pride and k-1 will always be big in japan and make millions and millions. The UFC is expanding to UK and Mexico too.

            Boxing vs. Wrestling matches are nothing new, and weren't an overly rare occurance in the days of James Jeffries & Jack Johnson, who both competed in wrestling and with some success...

            And in fact one of the most famous "fights" of those long ago times was a boxing match pitting Frank Slavin against the the great wrestling champion (maybe the best ever catch-can wrestler) Frank Gotch, which didn't turn out all that well for the wrestler in what was, I believe, the only time he had ever lost in a competitive contest, although it was by DQ;

            "Slavin toyed with Gotch, cut him up, closed one eye and had the other nearly shut when, in the fifth round, Gotch, enraged to the point of ?????(can't read it) picked up Slavin and hurled him over the top rope into the audience." - Oakland Tribune

            Just a brief and contemporary description of the fight, which was reportedly Gotch's third boxing match ("Gotch knocked out two minor lights in private bouts").

              UFC puts out like 1 ppv a month and 2 fight cards for free on spike tv!

              they have like 5 fights aired on the free cards live!

              Boxing you have to watch ppv, or order hbo....if boxing showed fights on nbc, fox, abc for free 1 a wekk then boxing wouldnt die.

              but thats the problem greedy promoters wanting quick money from ppv.
              What do you think is gonna happen as soon as the UFC finds out that people will pay for their UFN shows?

                  and they are usually one-sided. I dont see what everyone else sees...

                  Ask any diehard fan of each sport and 9 times out of 10 they are gonna say that Boxing at its best is a billion times better then UFC or MMA at its best.

                  The problem is, MMA or UFC is more consistant. ur not gonna be DREADFULLY bored by a fight (BROCK-IBROGIMOV) but that comes with the price of never being extremely entertained...
                  no..you just gotta watch two guys hugging on the ground for 5 minutes at a time if it's a technical ground fight..that **** is ****ing lame, and I mean that in a non ****phobe way. nothing's gay about groundfighting, I just think it's lame to watch, and the ref will stop it after a few shots...those shots are coming from a guy who hits about as hard as a middleweight boxer, max, I guarantee you Fedor doesn't hit near as hard with his fists as any ****ty heavyweight out there, and he's on the ground when he gets in those shots normally, so not near as much leverage is coming from the shots. in Boxing there's always that chance you'll get caught on the ropes, and put out on your feet with that first shot, and then you have a guy in front of you unloading hooks on you as the ropes hold up your limp body as the ref frantically tries to step in, see, **** like that doesn't happen in MMA, there are no brutal Green KO's Codrington type ko's in MMA, and mma has little to no tradition, and that is why I am a boxing fan. I really think seeing someone KO'd with a fist is much more satisfying than a kick, or a tapout, thats just my opinion. I choose to participate in the riskier sport(name a mma fighter that died, or got serious brain trauma...I never heard of one) that is richer with tradition.

                    How can you gaurantee that any MMA fighter doesn't hit as hard as any boxer? There's no way you can unless you have taken the punches from those men yourself.

                    You also implied that you would rather watch a sport where fighters get killed more often. That right there just isn't right and shouldn't be apart of any argument involving combat sports. That should be the last thing on any fan's mind. I think it's great that not many MMA fighters have died.

                      Guess what dumb****, they are both sports but what happens when they meet on the street one on one, yeah the advantage is gonna go to the guy thats well rounded, not the guy that punches and dodges.
