Calzaghe: Taylor not ready for me.

I just read that Calzaghe is saying that it would be a big money fight and that it would be great since Taylor defeated The Man (Hopkins) TWICE, yet he isnt ready to face the level of competition that Joe offers and he (Taylor) is about a year away from qualifying to face him.
He says this as he is preparing to face Peter Manfredo!
I like Peter tons....in fact, I'ma fan of both Taylor and Peter. I honestly havent seen any of Joe's fights other than the Lacy fight and that was IMPRESSIVE. But I havent become a follower yet. But for him to say that Peter is certainly ready and qualified and Taylor isnt is just ******. Then to say that in a year Taylor should be ready....but what about Joe's skills? He's getting up there in age and his best assets when it comes to skill have to erode with age. I just dont want to hear an excuses a year from now in the event that he loses.
I'm not here trying to bash Joe(or Peter or JT, for that matter)...but I think the comment is ******. I read an issue of Boxing Monthly a few months ago with Joe and Hatton being asked which fighters they should face and why or why not. And if I recall correctly, all he wanted to face was B-Hop (maybe one more fighter to be fair, but I cant recall right now). Every other great fight (Kessler, Taylor) was brushed off as them not being ready or not at his level.
I think American fans want to be believers. And while impressive, the Lacy fight just hasnt done it (for me anyway). We wanna see the fights that matter and until then, people wont respect him.

Here is the article, by the way:

    Calzaghe: Jermain not ready!
WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe, boxing's current longest-reigning world champion (1997-present, 19 title defenses) says he would love to defend his title against middleweight champion Jermain Taylor. "Not only is he a terrific middleweight champion, he's the man who beat the man -- Bernard Hopkins -- TWICE. Perhaps in another year Jermain will be ready to step up and challenge me and we can have a fight between two belt holders. I just don't think it's fair to push him up to my level yet. It's frustrating for me because it would be a big money fight, but it's obvious he's just not ready." Meanwhile, Calzaghe will face The Contender's Peter Manfredo on April 7 at Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales.

Eh? Where did Calzaghe say he didn't want the fight?

"It's frustrating for me because it would be a big money fight"

Calzaghe's after the money, Taylor hasn't mentioned Calzaghe once.

I would love to see that fight and although I'm not a big fan of Calzaghe, I think he'd outclass Taylor.

Actually, I've heard proposals of Taylor moving up to face him in the past. Maybe it was bull**** and just the usual rumors bandied about. But this isnt something new.
And Joe said he didnt want the fight because Taylor wasnt ready for him. I just think that reasoning is ******, considering he is facing Peter Manfredo, who lost twice to Mora. And do we think Mora will school Taylor?

I'd say that Taylor is as ready as he'll ever be.Plus, won't Calzaghe be retiring somewhat soon.It sounds like he's saying that he'll never fight Taylor.

Do you honestly think Calzaghe would turn down that fight?

Calzaghe even said Lacy wasn't even on his level before the fight and proposed to 'smash him', he's said in recent interviews that Manfredo isn't on his level and proposed to 'smash him', him saying Taylor isn't on his level isn't an excuse for not wanting to fight, he's a fighter, having an ego is what he's all about.
