UFC is no closer to gaining mainstream media coverage than boxing is to getting back on network TV.
Boxing has tradition and history that UFC will never have, and it is considered a classier, more civilized sport than MMA.
ESPN probably looks at MMA as 'real professional wrestling' and doesn't see a reason to give it any coverage. ESPN, it is no secret, feels like it calls the shots on what's important and what's not, and though they still support boxing (the Contender series, FNF, TNF, having Dan Rafael on staff, etc.), they don't support MMA nearly as much, if at all. Until ESPN starts a MMA section on its website and has guys like a MMA Rafael-equivalent on staff and shows highlights of big events, MMA is not killing boxing and it is not "taking over".
