UFC is no closer to gaining mainstream media coverage than boxing is to getting back on network TV.

Boxing has tradition and history that UFC will never have, and it is considered a classier, more civilized sport than MMA.

ESPN probably looks at MMA as 'real professional wrestling' and doesn't see a reason to give it any coverage. ESPN, it is no secret, feels like it calls the shots on what's important and what's not, and though they still support boxing (the Contender series, FNF, TNF, having Dan Rafael on staff, etc.), they don't support MMA nearly as much, if at all. Until ESPN starts a MMA section on its website and has guys like a MMA Rafael-equivalent on staff and shows highlights of big events, MMA is not killing boxing and it is not "taking over".

To tell you the truth.. When i watched Lidel fight i became a fan on him. I like his style. He doesn't lay on the floor all of time. **** if most people where like Lidel i wouldn't mind seeing UFC that much. Lidel is the man IMO. Ortiz is iight, and him saying UFC "HAS" taken over boxing is ******.

Shut the **** up Ortiz. Griffin has the blueprint to your ass. Lidel is gonna ass **** you.

I didnt mean it the way it sounded. I agree with you. I just meant its not as big in the UK even though it is growing.

And all i meant by the other statement is for people who hardly have any idea about the UFC get drawn in by the thought of "cage fighting" and they think they'l see some guy get his face smashed in in every fight they watch, but when they see theres alot more technique involved instead of two massive guys throwing elbows and knees everywhere they might lose interest.

that's ****** to say that cause a huge majority of them have never even bothered to try amateur boxing to begin with.
          they're not failed boxers.
they just don't give a **** about that sport.
          they come from different backgrounds..

some come from judo , others from sambo etc... there's very few strikers in the ufc. They've got anderson silva who' s a confirmed muay thai fighter. but apart from him?...most of them are "mma" strikers. nothing more.

CHuck Liddell couldn't even pass regional kickboxing championships.
It's not about "not good enough" to be a boxer issue.
          stop being in denial.
          It's about PPV numbers...

I don't know if boxing is dying. (probably not)
but one thing's for sure. If boxing was actually doing way better than "mma".
You wouldn't constantly see threads like "is the ufc taking over?" or "is boxing dying"? or this Tito Ortiz article..

lets look at it in this way

if a boxer were to encounter a ufc fighter out in the street and they both had beef, lets say they were street fighting, who would you put your money on?

what I am saying, is if 2 people are going to fight in the street , not ring not octagon, but the the street, who would you pick to win

who has more weapons to choose from in a fight

yeah, put them both in a boxing ring and more than likely the boxer will win

put them both in the octagon and the ufc fighter has a better chance to win

now put them in the streets

dont get me wrong, I love boxing, but the ufc can be fun at times too

I would much rather watch boxing than UFC

                      yes, for the most part

if some one like Mike Tyson even at his age would learn these skills, he would be a mean SOB in the ufc
