and money talks and even if Paul Williams may very well deserve a shot first, a fight with the more marketable Miguel Cotto equals more money at this point
Williams isnt just another mandatory. He is a 30 win mandatory, with highly rumoured sucess against Margarito in sparring. A mandatory that has 3 televised wins on national TV. This guy is a legit threat. Cotto isnt fighting Margarito until June/July, so Margarito has time for another fight in Feb/March and if he wins can still get a fight in June/July. He really has no exscuse.

Margarito is just a pawn man, hes hanging around just for Cotto or a Puerto Rican can whup his ass. They matched him with Santos, he couldn't beat him, so they went to Cintron, and now he gets a chance at Cotto. Just rubs me off bad...if Cotto does beat him, his status will just dissapear and it will look as Cotto beat a nobody.

I'm not quite sure how you "duck" a fighter when you sign to fight a better one. Cotto has clearly accomplished more then Williams, has proved himself far more, and is the FAR bigger draw (nobody outside of a boxing message board is sure who Paul Williams is). And it's clear that Arum runs Margarito, so this is obviously Arum's choice, and on paper it's a smart one. Cotto is a name, a respected titlist, undefeated, and has become a very good draw. PR v. Mexico is also a "can't lose" promotion.

Would I like to see Tony defend against Williams, keep his belt, and then unify with Cotto? Of course! But I totally understand why Arum wouldn't want to take that risk.

Then again, if I was Arum (and yes, I'm still thinking in terms of risk/reward) I'd have Tony defend against Williams first. I think Williams gets hit too easy to beat Margarito in a war.

You weren't saying this when Floyd Mayweather was looking to a fight with DLH...

That's a ****ing crock of ****. Arum withdrew his $8 Million offer two days after Baldomir beat Gatti.

If you are going to talk **** about Mayweather passing up that paper champion Margarito for better fights (Baldomir and DLH), then you need to start hating on your boy Margarito too since he won't fight Williams to guarantee a shot at Cotto...

I've said it before and I'll say it again, Paul Williams strikes fear into the heart of Margarito. Tony can't beat southpaws and Williams would be the best lefty he's faced. Williams is also bigger than Margarito and Margarito already felt The Punisher's power in sparring. It all adds up to why Margarito wants nothing to do with Williams...

Gee, that's pretty funny coming from a guy who was accusing Mayweather of "ducking" Margo not that long ago. There are some huge ****ing hypocrites and irrational haters on this forum.

I wasn't saying this when Floyd opted to fight Judah instead of Margarito or Baldomir, you mean. That's really the only time I've been critical of Floyd's choice of opponent. That and calling "Margarito" easy work, and turning down career-high paydays to fight him. None of that applies to Margarito and Williams, does it?

i was thinking the exact same thing, especially coming from him. he says margarito isnt ducking, yet fails to mention that williams is his damn mandatory, better fight or not. Mayweather was NEVER in line to fight margarito, ever, margarito was never the mandatory for anything, he was just begging for a fight.

and to others who say "dont bieleve what comes out of arums mouth" ok, thats fine, then we can throw out that 8million dollar **** as well.
