I'm not sure what's more ******ed, this notion as a whole, or the crybaby Calzaghe fans in this thread.

1) Calzaghe's title defenses are just about all WBO. Considering the opposition he fought in that time, and that he didn't (Sven Ottke, Eric Lucas, Markus Beyer, Anthony Mundine, Antwun Echols, Mikkel Kessler, Danny Green)...

any slight suggestion his “reign” is a legitimate one is outright laughable. He had a list of other fighters at 168 he didn’t fight, didn’t unify the titles, and beat one fighter in that time that was remotely on the verge of being considered pound for pound in Lacy.

2) Hopkins reign and career TRUMPS Calzaghe’s. Any suggestion to the contrary is from a blinded insecure homer full of longing for something meaningful.

Hopkins knocked out two legends in Tito and Delahoya, and was the first fighter to beat and only to stop Glenn Johnson. Hopkins also was the 1st fighter in boxing history to unify all FOUR titles in his weight class.

And before you start crying about Oscar and Tito coming up in weight, see Marvin Hagler fighting Tommy Hearns and Roberto Duran. Hopkins also moved straight up to 175 and shut out the Champion to become undisputed at Light Heavyweight.

Also consider how you’re all drooling over the thought of a Calzaghe Taylor fight, where Taylor would be the smaller fighter moving up who hasn’t a third of the accomplishments Tito and Delahoya had.

3) Another outright JOKE in all of this is how Joe’s stating his intention is to break a defense record at 168, when the other two titles are ready and waiting to be a part of that.

How does someone go about breaking a defense record without unifying? Bika and Manfredo are more important fights are they?

Kessler can surely get an extension on fighting his mandatory if there’s a unification fight available. If Calzaghe’s on about breaking a defense record at 168 he should be looking at NOTHING other than Kessler.

Anything else is much like the earlier portion of his career. Hollow, and devoid of substance.
