Oscar is one thing, tito was another. tito had already destroyed the 2nd best middleweight in the world, and was a very big welter and big jr. middle himself.

that was a great win for hopkins, and it wasn't merely some smaller guy that didn't belong at middle.

I find this funny because Calzaghe's opposition during his defenses is if possible, actully worse than Hopkins competition.

Neither of them have the best competition, but it's a pick'em to who has the worst, both have their ups and downs.

I'm not sure what's more ******ed, this notion as a whole, or the crybaby Calzaghe fans in this thread.

1) Calzaghe's title defenses are just about all WBO. Considering the opposition he fought in that time, and that he didn't (Sven Ottke, Eric Lucas, Markus Beyer, Anthony Mundine, Antwun Echols, Mikkel Kessler, Danny Green)...

any slight suggestion his “reign” is a legitimate one is outright laughable. He had a list of other fighters at 168 he didn’t fight, didn’t unify the titles, and beat one fighter in that time that was remotely on the verge of being considered pound for pound in Lacy.

2) Hopkins reign and career TRUMPS Calzaghe’s. Any suggestion to the contrary is from a blinded insecure homer full of longing for something meaningful.

Hopkins knocked out two legends in Tito and Delahoya, and was the first fighter to beat and only to stop Glenn Johnson. Hopkins also was the 1st fighter in boxing history to unify all FOUR titles in his weight class.

How does someone go about breaking a defense record without unifying? Bika and Manfredo are more important fights are they?

Kessler can surely get an extension on fighting his mandatory if there’s a unification fight available. If Calzaghe’s on about breaking a defense record at 168 he should be looking at NOTHING other than Kessler.

Anything else is much like the earlier portion of his career. Hollow, and devoid of substance.
