Hopkins: "I Won't Let Calzaghe Make History"

Former undisputed middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins has officially put the word on the street, he is back!

Initially, Hopkins said that he would return to the ring only if he was able to land a heavyweight title shot against WBC champ Oleg Maskaev. Now it appears that Hopkins would also be willing to face WBO super middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe if a Maskaev bout did not materialize.

Hopkins would give Calzaghe trouble. Hopkins is a rough counter puncher, so stylistically troublesome for Joe.

I'd rather Joe fought Jermain Taylor, but either fight would be good.

There'd be no track meet because Calzaghe cuts off the ring pretty well. He'd get clocked with the looptie-loop right hand coming in though. The only thing is, Calzaghe never stops throwing punches....it's crazy.

In a perfect world Maskaev would be unifying with Wlad and Hopkins would be fighting Calzaghe.

Maskaev will do everything he can to make the fight happen. He knows a fight with Hopkins would probably be his biggest payday. Hopkins/Calzaghe: cant see it happening.

Hopkins is just like Calzaghe in that many of Hopkins' most impressive statistics are because other fighters came to him. Calzaghe had Lacy; Hopkins had Trinidad and De La Hoya.

I'd like to know where he comes off with this legend stuff. The defense record is an impressive statistic, but when you look at the men they came against, you have to think twice. Robert Allen THREE TIMES for God's sake.

Hopkins is coming back because he got tired of trying to beat the system; now he's alongside De La Hoya as one of the biggest parts of it. No longer is he surly and uncooperative, instead he's always ready with a smile and a soundbite.

Man must know his limitations. To that end, I would hope Maskaev, a VERY average heavyweight, cracks Hopkins back to reality.

When everyone is scared ****less of you, nobody wants to challenge for your title. At least Allen had the balls to step up to the plate for the Undispted Middleweight Championship.

This paragraph made me laugh. Tito and ODLH might've been moving up in weight but comared to.... Lacy? This makes me giggle.

I would love this match and be one of the few PPV's each year I buy but this would be a must. I'd favor Hopkins but hardly think it would be a walk in the park.
