Here is an article about the rematch negotiation, they offered 750, he wanted 1.5.....WHERE IS THE COUNTER? How does the promoter not even make a counter offer? It was basically a take it or leave it offer.
Marquez Wants $1.5 Million To Fight Pacquiao

The Manager of WBA and IBF featherweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez has threatened to pull out of talks regarding the megafight against Filipino Manny Pacquiao on Feb. 26 if and when Marquez is not given a fair share of the purses.

Reportedly, Marquez has been training since November and even kept a spartan lifestyle during Christmas Day, training and working out at the gym while people enjoyed the festivities.

"There are a lot of difficulties, not just a few in the negotiations for Juan Manuel's purse," said Beristain. "Bob Arum's son (Todd Du Boef) and Fernando Beltran are proving a bit difficult. I hope that by mid-January, we should have a deal concluded but if not I don't think there's going to be a fight."

The manager explained that the contentious point lies not with Du Boef who he has yet to meet, but Fernando Beltran who he claims is offering "a ridiculous amount. Half as much as my fighter wants," said Beristain. "We want more because Juan Manuel is the champion. I consider this to be an abuse. We want money not peanuts."

"We want a minimum of 1.5 million dollars, and they're offering about half of that," Beristain cited, when asked what was being put on the table.

"We want this fight to go ahead. Juan has been working exceptionally hard in the preparation. And we want to show the fans Juan's class as a fighter, in order to gain access to better paydays."

Pacquiao is having a nice time thanks to Morales being 30 and battle worn, Barrera 32 and ring old, and Marquez being 33 and having lost a step.

Five years ago, or if Pacquiao was at a similar state, he loses to all three one way or another.

I don't know. I think Morales would have beaten him, but Barrera would have had trouble and probably lost. The only fighter Barrera really went to war with was Morales. Barrera has issues with fighters that take it to him throwing non stop power punches, such as Junior Jones. I think Marquez was was in his peak when he fought Pacquiao in 04, now he is on the downside.

Marquez has lost a step. You could say he was being more aggressive on purpose with Jaca, but he wasn't as fluid as he was. I don't see anyone winning a straight up shootout with Pacquiao. Marquez can match him for accuracy, but not power. If it comes down to who lands first, Marquez is screwed. Be nice to see if he stands and trades, though.

                lots of wut if......

if only marquez accepted that rematch for $750,000 (which should be his highest pay) we wouldnt have this debate....

if only that ******iot judge scored it correctly in the first round, PACMAN would have won the fight and we wouldnt have this debate...

if PACMAN won instead of the draw, for sure he'll give marquez a rematch and prolly accept $100,000 purse...

                ifs continues....

                  Dude,

Nacho and Marquez is asking for $1.5M which is the entire license fee offered by HBO for the rematch.

That is unrealistic!!! Clearly, the priced themselves out....and how could you do it twice? is he scared **** or what?

"Marquez and his manager Nacho Beristain did not do his career any favors. After the bout with Pacquiao, Marquez rejected a career high $750,000 for the rematch and demanded $1.5 million, which was the entire license fee offered by HBO. In 2005, Top Rank offered Marquez $1.5 million to face Erik Morales in the main event on an HBO pay-per-view that was scheduled to take place in the Fall of 2006. Again Marquez rejected the offer, requesting an unrealistic $3.5 million, a figure that according to Top Rank, was an amount that even the more marketable Erik Morales had never been guaranteed in his entire career "

Look, they offered him more than double to face Morales. Why couldnt they make a counter offer for the Pacquiao fight? Why not, "you want 1.5 for Pacquiao, we will meet you at 900-1Million", rather than "take 750K of leave it"
