Why Americans slag off calzaghe?

Annie why do you do this to me?
I like Calzaghe, but I'll tell you he's a hard fighter to like. His punches look awkward, his style is unique and not obvioulsly in a good way. It takes some getting used to. Winky Wright is similar in that regard, but while watching a replay of Wright-Mosley I last week I decided he must be the best active fighter right now. It's just that you can't decide you like him/them immediately by watching.
Oh and it's hard to admit a Brit is better thsan an American. There is a history behind that. We are your sons.
Anorak = pwned lolage!!!!!!!!! bwahahahahahahhahaha
I look at Americans as being the ******s we didn't want that we sent off in a boat. They found a new land (thinking it was India
) and settled there, giving the world hotdogs and Mickey Mouse.
It could have been worse - we also sent off our rapists, murderers and thieves to an Island. They've been at it down under for two centuries and still haven't developed a culture.
As for Wanky Wrong, then I always find him a boxer I admire, rather than love. He's technically excellent, but he's like Mogadons in pugilist form.Comment

I've never talked **** about Calzaghe, I did pick Lacy to beat him, because I had only seen him fight once, and I was not impressed. He impressed me in dominating Lacy.Comment

Evrytime i read a thread on here there are loads of americans slagging off joe. Who is this is it because he gave one of your golden boys jeff lacy a beating of a life time? You all say he ducks fights and alays fights at home well a) i don't think thats entirely one side the top americans never wanted to fight him coz they knew he might win and b) what about roy jone who is supposed to be a legend ducked everyone eubank, benn, colins and calzaghe that man never thought anybody with a hope of beating him for years even Ruiz had no hope the guys hopeless!
Its not that we slag off on him its just that we dont agree with you that he is the next Sugar Ray. He has done well, I can not dispute that, but when he is praised by the Europeans as being the next great thing then I have to disagree. You can say Roy ducked him and ducked him but look at the records. Tarver, Reggie Johnson, Virgil Hill, Montel Griffen, Mike McCallum, James Toney, Bernard Hopkins, Eric Harding....... He may not have fought everybody to please you but thats a pretty good list of fighters to have stepped in with. Compare that to Calzaghes list of Eubank, Reid and well a green Lacy and I would say that Jones resume looks a hell of alot better. Calzaghe is a good fighter. Is he on the level of a Sugar Ray or even a Roy Jones, no he is not.
Its not that he not American and its not that he is European. Its the fact that he has fought a rather ordinary list of opponents when talking about elites. If he wants to claim to be the best and you want to back him on it then I say step in with somebody that can throw on a consistant basis. His last 15 fights he has beaten who for you to proclaim his greatness?
Rockin'

Part of the reason why there is such a Brit-American rivalry is because you say incredibly dumb things like this. The fact that you brought this up shows your intense bias and lack of knowledge on the issue as to reasons why those fights did not happen. Furthermore, Roy fought various HOF fighters and more than ten top 10 fighters in his reign at 175, including many former and current world champs. His career was not perfect, but for to rap off 5 names like Benn and Eubank (etc) as if Roy 'ducked' them al is, frankly, a joke.roy jone who is supposed to be a legend ducked everyone eubank, benn, colins and calzaghe that man never thought anybody with a hope of beating him for years even Ruiz had no hope the guys hopeless!
Simply put, it is true that most of the Brits wanted to stay at home. Like it or not, that hurts their rep in the eyes of U.S. fans, which is where the Mecca of boxing is. This is a simple fact, and the more Brits deny it, the more it only hurts the rep of their fighters. Remember this: Lacy is the one who pushed for a fight with Joe. And he took it to Joe in the U.K.Comment
