We know Canelo can box and move and we know that Toney struggles with that.
Toney didn’t beat anyone on Canelo’s level “easily” so I very much doubt it would start with him.

Canelo moves a bit but he doesnt box AND move. He moves like Cotto does, when he's tired and trying to take a round off.
Besides the Money Canelo makes, why is he on such a high level? He lost one sidedly to Mayweather. Got schooled. He lost to GGG and got gifted a draw. The real draw was the second fight. He's never really beat GGG.
Lara beat him, if you are honest and actually watch the fight, Lara beat him. Canelo wasn't landing anything.
Toney has a better excuse than Canelo, he got fat and had bad training habits. At 160 though he's a beast with far superior skills than Canelo, who is muscle bound and tight - would struggle to land on Toney.

Isn’t that usually the excuse why he arguably lost to Williams, Sosa, Johnson, McCallum and did lose to Tiberi? None of these guys struggled to land on Toney and now Canelo would? Maybe in fantasy land where Toney isn’t the fighter he is in reality.
I mean, Canelo arguably lost to Lara yes. But Dave Tiberi beat Toney, with relative ease too. So, what’s the difference?
Canelo clearly can box and move, clearly he can do that. More than enough to at the very least trouble Toney.
And I said Toney didn’t beat anyone on Canelo’s level easily. Key word being “easily”. And he didn’t, it wouldn’t start with Canelo

junior welterweight Mayweather made a fool of him using oldschool skills.
The fighters toney was fighting were better than the fighters Canelo is fighting. GGG wouldn't hang with Toney, Lara wouldn't hang with Toney, Jacobs would get knocked out for sure.
Even Tiberi is better than the guys Canelo is fighting, it's just back then he wasn't anything special.
I don't have nostalgia glasses on either, I was born in 1989. In my opinion, when I compare the 2 eras, this new era is marketed so heavily and hyped so heavily but the level is low. They don't come to win, they fight less and they quit earlier.
I'm not gonna write a 4 page essay as to why I think boxing was better in the late 80's - early 90's.
One big factor is the HD feeds we get on fights now, it shows every detail. When you watch older fights its a fuzzier camera and much farther away. Ever viewed fights taken by video recording up from the stands? these guys don't look impressive at all under similar circumstances.
whats so special when its this camera angle? throw on a black and white filter and chop the frame rate a bit to make it even more convincing.
not only this, Mayweather looks like a lightweight who ate a big steak
Toney would actually pulverize him. Canelo still fights with his hands glued to his head like an amateur, to block point scoring and because hes always got stamina issues from being blown up and lifting weights.
nunn 6 ft 3 so its not the same fight, but same camera at leastLast edited by them_apples; 11-09-2020, 11:46 PM.

Canelo’s feet would trouble Toney. Again, you’re claiming he’d “pulverise” Canelo, GGG won’t be able to hang with him, etc when we have no evidence of this. We have no evidence that Toney could do that to fighters of their level. Beat them? Sure. Easily? No.
Dave Tiberi better than guys Canelo’s fighting?Good joke.
I didn’t say Canelo is a special fighter. You don’t need to be a special fighter to beat Toney.
Canelo has more than enough in his arsenal to cause him problems. Lesser fighters than him did.

heres another "from the seats" view fight.
All these old fighters used similar skills that Mayweather uses, they are just bigger heavier fighters. Mayweather is the quick small version.
Canelo just fights like an amateur, with a few little tricks and counters. I'm not even convinced he hits that hard at 160.

Other than using a shoulder roll defense Mayweather and Toney are nothing alike as fighters so what is the point of that comparison?
Canelo isn’t a concussive puncher at 160, no. Your point is what?
The fact of the matter is Toney didn’t beat anyone on Canelo’s level with ease. He just didn’t. He in fact struggled and a few times lost to fighters who weren’t even close to his level.
He’s not “pulverising” Canelo. There’s no evidence what so ever to suggest that.
