Do you see the irony in how you responded here? It details exactly what I am talking about.
    - -U in diapers when John Ruiz and Chris Byrd were defending their titles?

      - -We all saw how Byrd and Ruiz fared against Field who was eventually stripped of his boxing liscense by the NYCommision.

ABC groups gonna ABC. I didn't see the WBA as any higher level ABC group back then (or now). The main thing to me is no one gave a fook about Ruiz back then & he didn't deserve to be a mando in the first place. Mfers never gave a fook about Ruiz tbf. Grant was the hyped contender at the time who most wanted to see Lennox fight. That said Lennox knows better than I that if a ABC group says to do x you better do x or you risk losing your belt.

Its just a matter of perspective... I think you make valid points and they are the kind of points that would tend to validate a historical narrative. I particularly like how you have a sense of Ruiz and Lewis as individuals.

We all overstate our case for the sake of the process: It is what drives the academy! Or, maybe people believe Kant when he says, "Never tell a Lie." The proper thing to say might have been, "in theory for the sake of an ethical principle one should consider never lying" so that many years later neo-kantians would not have to defend him against those who said "Humph! so if you are holding ***ish freedom fighters in the second world war and the **** guard comes up and asks 'are you holding ***ish freedom fighters?' you would, according to Kant have to say YES!"

My point is, when I said I never consider certain aspects... I should have said, under certain conditions. For the fact of the matter is, when fans are getting the best fights with no middle man, I am all ears about the idiocyncracies that drive individuals to make the decisions they make. Why did Bowe throw the belt in the trash? was he afraid of Lewis? we can ask that question, Bowe certainly was not intending to fight Lewis that day at least.

yeah both men who would do very well against lewis, I know you do not believe that! As a fan would you like to see Byrd get crushed like Bowe did to Herbie Hyde? But thank you for providing a name.

Please please no triangle theory! Yeah Ruiz could hold a man roughly his size down and make an ugly fight. Byrd was very good, just not so good that despite his size he could fight the bigger and often better heavyweight contenders. Byrd kind of lost his defensive wizardly down the line...

                - -Lewis avoided southpaws, ie Byrd.

That he avoided Byrd and Ruiz to the extreme of taking easier $ from DKing in exchange for those belts that briefly resurrected that Excon is part of his record.

                Inescapable.

More opinion masquerading as fact. No... And I like Byrd... But two very weak opponents who the fans had no interest in watching Lewis dismantle.

                      - -Hyde was crushing Big Dummy early doors.

Byrd an elusive southpaw much more highly regarded. Lewis fainting goat actions regarding Ruiz and Byrd etched in stone.
