That conclusion is a giant stretch Rusty. Simplier usually is more the reality and the reality is we see socio-economic indicators that point to boxing hegemony. And America has for most of that time, nurtured that process, as opposed to Canada, or Europe for example. Something about the opportunities, the encouragement each group had to work hard with just enough assistance to keep working hard.
You see it everyday. There are no more Puerto Rican grandpa's in the basement of New York walk ups teaching their kids how to box...they have moved to Long Island, or Florida...Now it is Mexican and Central American grand pa's teaching their kids to box in the same walk ups.
He called you out on this and let me say this. Whatever you may think of Marg he does research into aspects of lineage, title and other influences that developed into the sport we have today. Research is not sexy, it is not pretty...quite honestly? the process itself does not usually even take much intelligence. It is a burden and only after the work is done can the intellect be used.
I studied religion and ancient texts in grad school...everyone thought this was like Indiana JOnes...far from it, you look at a character, and even though it is the same character, because of when the text was written, and because the group who wrote it had a take...It is yet another meaning...
The worse though? is Sanskrit. My friend did that and eventually decided on Tibetan Language. You have to be crazy to try to study Sanskrit... Craaaaazy.

That is a stretch and a half. That is not nearly enough information to make that determination. Maybe it is because MMA and Kickboxing are not as desirable for the top of the fighting talent pool...So the less talented go into the sport that pays less and is not as popular as boxing.
Maybe there are specific coaches in areas that make great participants. The Dutch are known for great kick boxing, not coincedntally the great fighter John Blume, was instrumental in developing a great program over there.
Russia and the Eastern Euro states also have a very well developed and comprehensive Sambo program. Sambo is Russian Judo and has been developed and used by the Staci, the KGB, AND...also has a biomedical aspect, developed scientifically. To top it all off there is also a sports program in Sambo where many great MMA guys from that area were trained, like Oleg Tarkenof.
This Sambo development is in addition to the boxing program that the soviet state shared with Cuban coaches...So there are aspects to Eastern European talent that can easily be explained. Look up SAMBO. You will find that there are indeed 3 aspects t the development of the art: As a form of Judo, as biomedical physiology and as an art used for combat.
And Brazil? you have a similar thing with Gracie Ju Jutsu. Important thing to remember: While Judo in Japan was stopped cold during the war, this never happened in Brazil. So the art was allowed to evolve all those years uninterupted.Comment

I made sure I practiced my Mandarin consistently and at my zenith I was almost fluent... But could never make it over to Taiwan to immerse. I also had wanted to get my 5th dan in Japan...Oh well, can't do it all I guess lol.
I can speak a bit and stuff, but if I had an immersion in the language for a few weeks I would be fluent. I would never go to the mainland though...Comment

Yes. Taktarov was specifically a Sambo prodigy. Fedor was incredible and I do not know where he was initially grounded.Comment

For what it's worth i'm thrilled that we have a kid on the spectrum posting here. Your rants make it much more entertaining.Comment

But he clearly adapted himself to MMA much better than Taktarov.
Same with Igor Vovchanchyn... he was a kickboxer, but not a particularly experienced one.
Both guys were like McGregor... natural fighters who rose to the top despite countless disadvantages.Comment

Dumb on purpose, case in point.

You can't even formulate a cogent post, let alone find a meaningful place in this discussion, do you really think Billeau wants you defending him?
Do you really think he was asking me not to pick on you because he respects you as a man ?Or do you realize that he sees how vulnerable you are and that I have a bad habit at going a little too hard at my targets- who, unlike you, are adults and can handle it?
Sure, your mom thinks you're cool. The Special Needs teachers at your school say how precious you are. The manager at the Chucky Cheese where you've had your last 25 birthdays always gives you a high five. I bet you've had your picture taken with Firefighters, politicians, and members of pro-sports teams. Probably you sing great Christmas carols every year at the local Nursing Home. But here you're just a kid with Asperger's who spazzs out and its funny. No hope of ever being taken seriously.Comment

Do you speak another? If you ever do learn one...Its a lot cooler to learn a language that can be spoken. My friends who studied Tibetan and....Sanskrit (Puts both hands on head and ducks down quickly) never can get the satisfaction of using their skills.

Well, how about Japanese, is that any more difficult? If anything, going the should EXTEND your life.Comment
