    The Rocky franchise

Lets be honest it has been the most iconic boxing movie ever and it will have spanned 6 decades if they make Creed 3(seems likely) which will be the 9th movie.

Pretty amazing that the movies are still good(in most people's eyes) after that much time has passed. I really enjoyed the latest Creed movie with the return of Drago and it had a good story with his son. What do you think? And what else can they still do with the characters at this point.

Also, we know the boxing has always been unrealistic but look at the shot in my gif, looks like Stallone nails the guy for real.

            - -Finally watched 1-3 back to back one evening I had free at home with plenty of beer and other refreshments and delicacies.

Near death experience from laughing my ass off and sore the next day. The spontaneous endorphins generated have lasted my lifetime at every recollection.

            Thanks!!!

The first Rocky movie was a great film, the likes of which major studios won’t make today. It comes off as an indy film as it explores th lives of average individuals one of which has been given an extraordinary opportunity. The protagonist is somewhat dimwitted, but not as a punchline, and there isnt some big social message. Its not even really about boxing, its about people who arent really seen as much in society, and how this unique opportunity helped them grow. Im not an artsy film type of guy, but the original Rocky was a great film.

Two tried to replicate that, but kinda missed the mark. Three and Four are basically superhero movies, with our hero doing battle in a boxing ring; they are super fun but a sharp turn from the original. Five is blah, Balboa is okay, and the Creeds are both good.

The thing is, Rocky is a movie about a boxer, who was given a great opportunity through boxing. But I dont consider it a boxing movie.

Speaking of unrealistic, you probably know that Stallone knew he was heavily criticized for how unrealistic the fight scenes looked in the Rocky movies, so he and Antonio Tarver hit each other for real in Rocky Balboa, albeit probably pulled punches. Talking about suffering for one's art though. Fans are also speculating if they do another movie whether Rocky dies or not or if they keep him around.

Most of the sequels, Diggstown, Gladiator, Raging Bull, etc.

I think one of the big things that makes me not consider the original a "boxing movie" is the end. The decision of who actually won the fight is secondary, its barely audible in the background. The focus is on Balboa calling out for Adrian, them coming together, despite the announcement of the outcome.

Consider a movie like "Cinderella Man" which is as much about life during the depression as it is about Braddock's career. The final McGuffin is him winning the title, all that comes after is epilogue. In Rocky, the McGuffin is him getting the girl, and her growing as a human being. Boxing is just the vehicle that allows them to get there
