Calm down. I know ********** trigger your Tourette's but it's just a picture.

Yes, they were selling records at the same age that you and your high school wrestling buddies were sticking things up each other's butts as part of team "initiations."

              Rusty,

Because, Petey was the Featherweight champ, and Hank beat him. Hypothetically speaking, " Freddie wanted to fight Hank for the featherweight title." Hank beat Lou for the lightweight title 8/17/38. Happy New Year to all.

I am not really sure what you're trying to say, or if you're actually following the events of the day.

                Look at the dates:

December 1931, Armstrong lost his 3rd pro-fight to Victor Ponce - both weighed 133 lbs (then the Lightweight limit).

January 1933, Miller wins the Featherweight championship.

February 1934: "Miller easily decisioned Sarron". Sarron weighed 129 lbs for that rematch.

June 1934 Arsmtrong (130) decisioned Davey Abad (134).

January 1935 Armstrong loses his rematch with 21 year old Arizmendi in a Featherweight contest. (Their first fight is listed as a "Divisions" contest on BoxRec, with no weights provided. But it came shortly after Arizmendi schooled Canzoneri at Super Featherweight/Lightweight).

November 1935: Armstrong fumbles his way through a Featherweight bout with a bloated and ring-worn Midget Wolgast. A hard fought win, but against Wolgast faaar from his best.

March 1936: Miller UD Sarron, defending his Featherweight belt.

March 1936: Hank (127) narrowly avenges his loss to Richie Fontaine.

May 1936 Sarron wins MD over Miller for the Fw championship.

August 1936: Finally beats Arizmendi - both are under the Featherweight limit. But Arizmendi, remarkably only 23 years old, had almost 100 fight, and recently lost a Lightweight bout with the surging Lou Ambers.

July 1977: Miller avenges his loss to Sarron in non-title bout.

September 1937 Sarron grants Miller another shot at the championship, but successfully defends.

October 1937, Armstrong- amidst his much lauded KO winning streak - would win the Featherweight title from Sarron, but the gross majority of his fights between those dates were fought as Lightweight contests.

It is pretty obvious that Armstrong wasn't a big Lightweight, but he only flirted with Featherweight. He never seriously campaigned there, and he never collected any number of high profile scalps. Once he hit his stride, he was clearly a Lightweight. The shot at Sarron's belt made no sense for any other reason than Sarron was low-hanging fruit.

Miller, was at the close of his legendary career, just as Armstrong was hitting his stride. But even then, it was determined, on Armstrong's end, that he wasn't really good enough to beat Miller. At least, it wasn't a sure bet; it wasn't worth the risk.

So if Armstrong & Co. didn't want any part of Miller, and he could only beat Ambers on fouls, and he couldn't at all beat a peak Zivic, I ask again, how is he going to beat Duran?

                    • Rusty,

Armstrong fought as featherweight 128-135. Lightweight division I believe is 132 to 135. Over 135 is considered Welterweight. Title's are drawn on those weight limits for each division. Does that answer your question. Cheers.
