      As opposed to Billy Martin?

In 1979, Billy Martin floored marshmallow salesman Joseph Cooper during a barroom brawl in Minneapolis, but denied he ever threw a punch....

        - -Billy knocked out enough ballplayers that generated offers to turn pro.

He being a scrawny alky could never have trained and was already making good $$$ as a ball player and eventually mgr.

Plenty of other fighting legends of baseball like the most prolific on and off the field, Ty Cobb, and catcher Charlie Schmidt who fought an exhibition with Jack Johnson and beat up a 19 yr old Cobb, and Braves 3rd baseman and team enforcer Eddie Mathews who beat up the Robinsons, Frank and Jackie as well as Don Drysdale, all big, strong hvys.

But we soon learned, Mr. Bob Lee had another agenda …
It's funny how the boxing world works. A from the start lying and dubious organization, gets worldwide acceptance in just a few years.
What got the IBF recognized so quick was the fact that Holmes who was the lineal champ dumped the WBC and took the IBF. It made the IBF impossible to ignore.

Pretty much baseball was like "handball" a place where many athletic cons went to make a few bucks, sunshine and fresh air. Ty Cobb the Georgia Peach, a real peach.
