It always bothers me when I see the way he was portrayed in THE CINDERELLA MAN, he could not be further from the character. Max was a clown who loved to crack jokes and was not a huge fan of training. Also by all accounts I have seen he was always bothered by killing that fighter in the ring. Kind of like the movie THE HURRACANE about Ruben Carter. In the movie they make it seem he got a bad dec when he fought Giadello. In EVERY fight report I have seen NOBODY thought he won. Also he was NOT gonna become champ if he did not go away, he had lost like 3 out of last 5 and had been going downhill for a while. One last thing if you REALLY check into that murder im not so sure he was not guilty, the whole movie is fiction.Last edited by Anthony342; 08-30-2019, 07:16 PM.

I will address several posts simultaneously. Yeah, it was Max Baer Jr. who played Jethro. And the boy was built like a brick shìthouse himself, a strapping specimen.
6' 5" Buddy Baer did some film and TV work as well. He got himself whipped in a straight up fist fight in the alley by marshal Matt Dillon, for the way he ****d poor Chester then dragged him behind a horse.
In another episode, Dillon straight up fist-whipped 6' 5" Chuck Connors, who was playing a cruel, cócky contender for the North American bareknuckle heavyweight championship.Last edited by The Old LefHook; 08-31-2019, 06:23 PM.

M description of the build of Angus Mackaskill always involves stating that he was built like a 7' 9" Max Baer, which I think he was.

Some about Max Baer's son, who was on Beverly Hillbillies, complaining about his father's portrayal when that movie first came out and articles talking about what a load of crap The Hurricane was, saying that the main reason Carter's conviction was overturned was that so many decades had gone by that witnesses had either died or could no longer remember what happened. Joey Giardello also successfully sued the studio, probably for defamation, since that portrayal was false and he clearly won that fight. I believe Carter also reportedly beat his wife. I must have been wrong that they changed it. That's really BS to discredit a fighter like that just to make Carter look better. This is not fiction and Giardello and his family should not have his legacy tarnished. One more thing about Carter, im sure you have heard the song by Dylan about Carter, for some reason he stopped playing that song after he lost his 2nd appeal. Even when asked Dylan never played it live again. He must of had his ?s after researching it.

That site Cracked has a few of those articles about movies based on a true story that are complete BS and there's a great youtube channel called History Buffs where a British guy researches those kind of movies and tells you what parts of the movie are true and which aren't, which happened and which didn't. His one on Goodfellas was great because about 90-95% of it is true. The only things they really didn't include in that was Paul Vario being just as mean as the rest of the guys in that movie and not as classy as he's portrayed in the movie by Paul Sorvino, Tommy Desimone being a lot taller in real life, the funny how scene being based on something that happened to Joe Pesci, Desimone's hit was speculated since his murder was unsolved and Henry Hill wanting to leave the mob after the Air France heist.
