He was a very smooth fighter. Got to see him live against Adolpho Washington and Vasily Jirov. One of the best fighters I've seen live.

We've got another big fan of Toney's around here, too--Iron Dan Hammy. He may well be over to dress you down.

James Toney was a lot of things.

            Skilled? Certainly

Big heart, tough as nails, iron chin.

            A lot of good attributes.

But great? No, no he wasn't.

But realistically this thread is pointless because all we are going to hear is 100 excuses as to why Toney lost and struggled with unranked fighters in his prime and why he failed to dominate or convincingly beat pretty much every top fighter he faced.

You watch. I guarantee it's coming.

how about you make an excuse for when you're dead f#cking wrong in not calling a fighter who went from 160 to 200+ over two decades great

you ahve to dominate fighters to be great? is that something you've made up? going from 160 to f#cking HW means nothing because he wasn't dominant, guys

FFS you compared him to adrien broner. your card on this subject has been f#cking pulled!

did being out of shape, genuinely not giving a **** about even showing up to the gym take away his wins when he was in shape and motivated?

who are the great fighters floyd mayweather beat if james toney is not great?

Well, the thread you are referring to I clearly stated in my first post that Adrien Broner is no where close to Toney's level. Just merely that as fighters there are similarities there, which there is.

Secondly, he went to Heavyweight and his record was poor there. You consider that great? Lots of MW's went to Heavyweight and had just as much as success as Toney.

I never said you have to dominate fighters to be great but merely pointing out that he failed to dominate or even convincingly beat the vast majority of top guys he fought. Should I ignore this?

And low and behold it took literally the first post for an excuse to come flying in Well done for that.

So what's his excuse for losing to Tiberi and struggling to beat Sosa, Williams and Johnson then?

Don't even see what your point is here.

Why clutch at straws? I clearly stated that Broner and Toney are not comparable resume and achievement wise.
