I'm having a hard time thinking of a boxer who would beat Foreman without moving backwards. And Louis was knocked down so many times by much smaller and weaker punching men than Foreman, even by a bum like Galento. This is an extremely tough fight for him.

Galento could hit if he could do nothing else. And remember, an old Louis lasted 8 rounds against a prime ATG puncher in Marciano, so I think his chin is better than given credit for

          Exactly my thoughts.

It's kinda annoying reading the same old 'Two Ton' Tony Galento crap over and over. Let's set the record straight, Galento vs Louis is not now nor has it ever been a gauge for how Louis would do against big punching heavyweights.

Galento was able to knock down Louis in the 3rd round. Against Marciano he didn't hit the canvas until the 8th. But how does that work? Did Louis' chin get better after 12 years and being 37 years of age as well as 17 years pro? Of course not, he got caught with a beautiful left hand counter punch that looked like it surprised him more than it hurt him.

Louis himself said he wanted to punish Galento over the course of the fight for all of the nasty things he said leading up to it. After the knockdown he said **** it and took Galento out of the fight the very next round. Had Louis planned on just going through Galento like a buzzsaw as he usually did against opponents then the fight probably would have ended in 2 rounds.

Louis was much defensively sound and pretty much brings everything to the table that a slow, poor-pacing, forward coming fighter like Foreman wouldn't want to deal with. An even more skilled, fast counterpuncher, who can match him in the punching department. Louis would probably lay a whooping on Foreman for the majority of the first half but once Foreman punches himself out he's going to sleep for sure.

I read that Foreman was worked over in sparring by Jerry Quarry. Don't know how true that is but if it is then Louis would be a nightmare because he could do everything Quarry could do plus hit harder. And Louis was only slightly larger than Quarry prime for prime.

You know you would chew out any of the more modern heavyweights if they ever suffered something as embarrassing as getting knocked down by this character, with all due respect:

190lb Braddock a punch with a 34% on his record knocked him down. Max Schmeling another 190lber made him chicken dance, knocked him down and later out. I don't recall Marciano really hitting Joe at will untill the last round where Rocky ended it very quickly after landing that nice left hook. Louis had a lot of heart and recovery but chin? Too much evidence to refute that. I'm probably leaving out other knockdowns he suffered in his career too.

I'm not trying to bash Louis, but if you really compare his opponents capabilities to that of Foreman who was possibly the most powerful and hardest hitting HW of all time it comes out that dramatic.

Louis doesn't do well in head to head matchups like this, his greatness relies on his resume/longevity.

--- Louis does fine in head to head matchups against most greats, but george was an all time force of nature.

As to Quarry, George always rated him quite highly, but denied ever sparring with him. Since Quarry was addled and deceased now, and no witnesses have come forward to say otherwise, the story is typical of boxing hooey like Pep winning a round by not throwing a punch or JJOHNSON throwing the Willard fight.

Ali is the guy who really suffers head to head against greats.
