Let's cut to the chase. Styles make fights, and I believe Spinks has a fatal flaw when it comes to facing RJJ. Nothing to be ashamed of. Most light heavy ATGs would have the same problem with Roy--they would simply not be fast enough to beat him. This is the problem Spinks has. The speed difference is critical. Spinks is not a fast light heavyweight but Jones is the fastest light heavyweight ever.

The Old Mongoose, Archie Moore, that's where it starts and ends in the light Heavyweight division,
" The man had more knockouts then most of theses guys had fight", was the remark George Forman said in reference to Pom Pom boy Jim Lampley saying this knock out of Virgil Hill might put Roy Jones as the greatest light heavyweight ever.
Fantastic comeback by Big George

And he was great in the old Batman episode working in the bank. And that's that

Moore is too slow to beat Jones. Archie is a slow light heavyweight, pure and simple. He knocked out more people because he had more fights than most fighters. There are plenty of folks with higher KO percentages than ol' Arch.
With Jones on the outside all night Moore will hardly touch him. About his only shot is to take enough bombs to make Jones fall for the ruse that he is hurt. If Roy moves in for the kill, a feigning Arch has a chance to nail him with something big. Just a chance though. If Roy manages to escape and figures out Arch was bluffing, that will be all the chances Arch gets, Jones would never become careless with him again.
I have thought about this matchup frequently over the decades. Moore, a man who will certainly whip most light heavyweights, has little chance in this one. It has an odd ring.
Do not be fooled into thinking I would disrespect Moore, who is an AT top 5 light heavyweight, maybe top 3.
Top 5 or 6 in no particular order.
Tunney
Foster
Moore
Spinks
Charles
Jones?
Not exactly sure where Roy falls AT in the division, under who beats whom format, but I do believe he whips Ward or Kovalev handily without much sweat.
Wow, there are some tough gentlemen to beat in the list above, Wow! Strangely enough, it may be light heavyweight that has the strongest AT top 5 of any division in boxing.
To be honest, I think no one could order that list properly without a lot of luck. Closest division anytime anywhere.
