Maybe just a smidgen early, but I had to use the two greats as my end pieces, my bookends.

Yet how many people, even some who have followed the sport for a long time, are aware of this? Not as many as should be lol.

Going back to the '68-'88 time period I would also add in some outstanding contenders such as Pierre Fourie, Andy Kendall, Jesse Burnett, Mike Quarry, Eddie Davis, 'Bossman' Jones, Jimmy Dupree and Avenamar Peralta. This really was an outstanding era.

Can't believe I forgot about Richie Kates. Whenever I make a 175 lb. list of great contenders, he's always in my top 10.

Don't feel bad, most people leave Kates out.

I prefer the golden age of television myself. Or The Gentleman's Guide to the Golden Age of *******s, as George Carlin once said.

Hard to beat those Amos & Andy episodes. The gentleman who played Kingfish (Tim Moore) was a professional prize fighter for a while and fought Archie Moore.
